Windows 7: BSOD IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL, now Memory_Management

BSOD IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL, now Memory_Management

Howdy all, i'm sadfacing right now as my beautiful Sega Exodus has run a BSOD string that I can't break. I'm still newer to windows 7, but i've repaired windows XP computer for a long time free lance, but this one has me baffled :- /

This is the chain of events leading up to the BSOD
-Room mate copied WoW folder on (wow of course doesn't need to install), played.
- Later, shut off computer, and later on i turned it on, she signed back in so i could see how WoW played on my new gaming machine.
-Weird pixelation and "fuzz" started appearing in the game, mainly around the higher "shiny" things like flames and stuff. Shut down WoW, fuzzies and screen stuff still happening, shut down and restarted.
- Distortions gone. Decided i wanted to play some Crysis.
- Played Crysis for about 5 minutes, reached a checkpoint, then BAM, crashed (game), froze. Force quit it, then tried running it again, this time it quit much sooner.
-Lastly, BAM, got hit with a BSOD, IRQ_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL (stop 0x0000000A), and now getting a BSOD memory management. I uninstalled almost everything, and also stopped a lot of programs from coming up in the background. unpluged my wireless and bluetooth adapters as well.

Right now i'm running an extensive Windows Memory Diagnostic Tool sweep, only 10% as i type this, but so far no errors (hope it's not the memory...)

Thing that sucks is this is a special custom build, many pieces are glued and no longer easily accessable. If memory test turns out okay, should i just do a clean install? I need a quick fix, i'm used to backing up and restoring.

IRQ_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL is usually attributed to faulty ram. How old is the ram? I suggest you run memtest.

Sadly, the memory test resulted in "OH btw, you have memory problems!" (couldn't see how bad it is, i need to re-run the test, i started it at 12:30am and i had class in hte morning).

So looks like bad ram...only had the ram for about 2 months, it's a special brand (Top Ram), only ppl that have low profile DDR2 memory in 2gb size (it's a special mod).

I need to try to somehow open up my rig and get at the rig is the Sega Exodus (a gaming PC built into a Sega Genesis+CD) but a lot of stuff is rather glued down, didn't expect a memory problem :P

I think one problem may be is that the mobo isn't grounded, i need to run a wire from the mobo to the PSU (which sits externally). Luckily the ram should still be under warranty.

Sorry for not including the file, it was rushed, and i looked at the top of the forum but didn't see a instructions or "BEFORE YOU POST" thread.

If you have two sticks of RAM, try booting with only one stick. Try each stick at a time and in different slots. It is highly unlikely that both sticks would have a problem simultaneously. This will help you identify the defective stick as well as any motherboard issues.

I have personally had this problem once, I spent ages trying to figure it out, now you think it's your RAM because the test said so, but also try removing some devices.

After weeks of trying to fix the problem, it turned out my Wireless network bridge was causing it, I believe it's driver related.

So, get the latest drivers for your ram and try that, failing that, try unplugging things and see if it stays alive with that particular device out.

Thanks for the support. i'm running memtest86 right now, so far it's almost half way through it's series of testing, and oddly no errors O.o I did leave the machine totally unplugged for a while, we'll see what happens, maybe it isn't hte memory, and a system restore is in order. CMOS could have just need to have been reset with a power-button press with no power supply plugged in. I'll keep you posted

Reporting in from the Exodus, i was able to test both ram, one is definitely bad...very bad :P only a couple THOUSAND errors in the know, just...bad.

Anyways, the other one checked out. Luckily I was able to just unscrew the bottom panel of the mod and lift the entire top half up enough to get at the ram, and luckily I was barely able to get the bad ram out from under the CPU fan without having to do more extensive surgery on this thing. I didn't even plan to be able to get at the memory and stuff...luckily it just turned out that worked :P

THanks for all the help, sending the bad ram in and then i'll have this thing running full power.

For those who don't know about why getting the ram was a unique problem, see here: Case Mod: Sega EXODUS - Gaming Performance with Style - -
