    BSOD - dxgmms1.sys (3 times)

    Hey guys,

First time poster, believe me I have crawled through many postings but cant find anything just related to dxgmms1.sys.

I was recently getting BSOD on XP PRO, so i updated just today to Win 7 Pro (overdue i know). I was hoping this would clear the problem but it hasnt. Today alone I have had 3 BSOD's of which I have attached.

I used BlueScreenView which pointed me to dxgmms1.sys and KERNEL_MODE_EXCEPTION_NOT_HANDLED in all 3 cases.

I have checked the memory with the windows tool, all fine, did a system scan (sfc) and its fine. And have updated the latest display drivers from nvidia.

    My system specs are:
    Intel Core 2 Duo E6850 @ 3.00GHZ (no overclocking)
    Mem: 3.00GB
    MOBO: P5K SE
Gfx: Nvidia Geforce 9800 GTX +

If I am leaving any details out please let me know. A few times a day is getting really annoying, on the bright side at least boot time has gone down from 5 minutes on XP to 30 secs on windows 7 :)

    Welcome to SF!

Yep, it does look as if your video card is the issue. Try installing some older drivers, and play around until you find some that work for you.

    KERNEL_MODE_EXCEPTION_NOT_HANDLED_M (1000008e)
This is a very common bugcheck. Usually the exception address pinpoints
the driver/function that caused the problem. Always note this address
as well as the link date of the driver/image that contains this address.
Some common problems are exception code 0x80000003. This means a hard
coded breakpoint or assertion was hit, but this system was booted
/NODEBUG. This is not supposed to happen as developers should never have
hardcoded breakpoints in retail code, but ...
If this happens, make sure a debugger gets connected, and the
system is booted /DEBUG. This will let us see why this breakpoint is
    happening.
    Arguments:
Arg1: c0000005, The exception code that was not handled
Arg2: 90ba22c2, The address that the exception occurred at
    Arg3: 96c3f6f0, Trap Frame
    Arg4: 00000000

    Debugging Details:

Your bsod appears to be from dwm.exe. Try turning off Aero for a while or you can simply disable dwm.

Just an update on this issue. This certainly may not be for all users experiencing the same issue but is conclusive for me.

I woke up the following day ready to tackle this issue and my computer was just a plain black screen! GREAT! :)

Turns out my harddrive was on the out and literally died last night. Luckily with all the BSOD's going on I backed up everything to my external (good idea if you start getting weird BSOD). Im now using my secondary hard-drive and everything is working great!

    Thanks for the help.

UPDATE: Even on my secondary hard drive i got this same BSOD. I have since updated my bios on my Asus P5K-SE and all is running without a single BSOD.
