    Welcome to SF!

I'd start by updating your keyboard drivers. Also, check in Event Viewer>Windows logs and see if you can find any errors.

I've encountered this problem on an HP dv6700. In my case it was related to a single specific thing- the Realtek audio drivers. Update your drivers and most importantly, after that CHECK that they have been updated. In my HP, there was this wierd thingy about the driver installing and then requiring a reboot to either continue the install or requiring a re-install.

    Thanks for the replies guys.

How do I go about updated the drivers?

I went through device manager, into Realtek and tried to update the driver through there. It said no update was available, and that the driver "date" was Jan 15, 2008.

Is this the latest driver? If not, how do I update the driver manually or otherwise?
Unfortunately sometimes mfr's dont support future releases of older hardware. If there is a vista driver avail. you can install it in compatibility mode.

Let us know if you need help
