We're off to a good start,

This is important, run this if you haven't yet.

A question on the debugging steps.
How did you uninstall AVG?
Need to be sure all traces are gone.
Run this AVG Remover Tool, if you haven't already.

Thorn8369's comment two posts below your last one can be looked at after we rule out the RAM slots faults.

After the build in Nov'09, did you set the RAM timings and voltages or just running the defaults?

Did you update the BIOS and/or chipset drivers when you finished the build? Did you let win7 find them or load from the Asus CD?

Let's not start skipping around just yet, this info will help with the trouble shooting order.

The first thing we need to rule out is RAM slot faults.

Defaults

Bios is upto date, windows 7 drivers not off disk.

Let's not start skipping around just yet, this info will help with the trouble shooting order.

Here is something you need to check.

In your motherboard manual in section 1.7.2 Memory configurations

- This motherboard does not support DIMMs made up of 256 megabits (Mb) chips or less.

From the Crucial website, the only DDR3 PC3-8500/DDR3-1066, 4GB kit (2GBx2) that I found there:

Check your memory specs, if they are 256 meg chips then your motherboard doesn't support that RAM.

If you can't find the info in your documentation then search the part number on Crucials website.

The sockets and all ok,

On your last post I think that the memory I have are 256mb here is why I think this:-

off of label 2gig 240-PIN DIMM 256MX64 DDR3

Please not this lol !!!!

if this is the case will the north bridge tweak to effect this particular problem?

That's good news about the RAM sockets. Rules out the motherboard problem and RMA.

Too bad about the RAM.
Check the return policy with your supplier. Best thing to do is return the RAM and get some with the correct specs for your motherboard.

After a quick check at Crucial's website, they only came up with one possible RAM for your motherboard. 1X4GB with 512 mb chips, it's twice the price per GB as the 2GB sticks, and would run in single channel mode - not good.
Try another brand, Corsair, J.Skill, Patriot, OCZ, are all good brands. Get DDR3-1600 with 8 timings, they're about the same price as lower timings and this is the max your motherboard recommends.

Don't think it will ever work properly, you can try tweaking the voltage and see if it helps. But it will most likely be running in single channel mode, like you have been since you first put this RAM in your system.

With the correct RAM you will get full functioning DDR3 Dual channel. Which will have definite performance advantages, which is the ultimate goal.

Go to the your memory assessment speed thread and run the memory assessment. Instructions are on the first post.

You should be above 10,000 MB/s, with full functioning 4GB DDR3 Dual channel you should be at least 16,000 MB/s.
For example my 8GB DDR3-1600 Dual channel runs at 19,424 MB/s (No OC'ing).

Would also recommend to install the 64bit win7, to get use of all the 4GB you have, or will have, installed. Also will have the option to increase RAM later if you decide to.
With 32bit win7 and 4GB RAM you will be able to use from 3.2 - 3.5 GB of the 4GB RAM, depending on your graphics card and other components using address space.
It's actually not a hugh amount, and might not be noticeable in everyday usage.

Let me know what you decide and how everything works out.
Post the memory assessment if you run it.

Is it possible that the install did not take? Please check \windows\system32\drivers for asio.sys

If you cannot locate it there, please perform all-out search via WHERE command -
START | type cmd.exe | RIGHT-click on cmd.exe | select "Run as Administrator" | paste -

where /r %systemdrive%\ /f /t asio.sys > 0 & start notepad 0

It may take a minute or so to run. A notepad will open with the results.

I've looked at the Corsair site and can't find any chip size info, I have that exact RAM (4X2GB) in my system. Different MOBO so can't say if it will work.

I got a response from Corsair Tech support.

"For that boards we would recommend one of our 1333MHz kits as 1600MHz is considered an overclock and may not run reliably."

I have asked for clarification on the 256 Mb chip issue.

Hi all again

1st of all thanks for the help so far.

I have now bought a Kit of GEIL ram see link:

this is listed in the mobo manual as being compatble BUT I am still getting BSOD's

Here is the lastes 2 dump files.

If it make any difference it BSOD when I refreshed the Windows Experience Index.

I am (and so is my mate who helpfully bought this ram for me what a legend!) getting really sick of this and also very frustrated and would love to see the back of this annoying issue!

Please help if you can...
