    BlueScreen on Shutdown or Restart (Win7)


    Hello,

    I`ve had this issue for a while, but I gave up searching for someone with my problem. I did search this forum also, but did not find exactly my problem. I just made an account and will put in the effort to help you help me solving this problem.

    Issue: I keep getting BlueScreen whenever I try to restart or shutdown
    Issue first accure: In april, after I installed my new RAM and a network adapter

    Bluescreen Code: 0x0000007F

    Specs: (info from CPU-Z)
    Os: Windows 7 32-bit
    MB: XFX MI-9300-7AS9 Nvidia nForce 730i (Gefore 9300)
    RAM: 2x DDR2 PC2-6400 (400MHz)
    Graph: Radeon HD 5770 1024 MB PCI-E
    Bios: American Megatrends V1.0B25 (date: 11/04/2008)

    Tried to resolve
    I have been trying to resolve and look for useful information myself about this problem. There has not yet been any info that I can use, but I have tried many things that other people have been suggesting for other users. Such as Memtest. Recently this evening I also tried to locate the Minidump files, as I did, but I can`t figure out how to read them. I will upload the latest though.

    I tried to download the Debugging Tools for Windows (x86), I installed it and tried the different commands. Did`nt quite understand how it worked.

    I executed MemTest over a night, there was no errors/faults found.

    Message pop-up from Windows(after login):

I also did order new memory almost as I installed the Network Adapter, so I am yet to find out what causes the BC`s.

    This one was caused by cowegt5.sys. Unfortunately there is zero information about it in any language. Only references I have seen is to a screensaver, and to a virus.

    If you know what it is, update it. Either way run a virus scan

    Welcome to Seven Forums :)
    Some of the other experts on this site will have a look at your minidump.
    I am guessing, as you have stated as the possible cause, that the issue is with your network adapter.
    Have you tried booting without your network connected?
    Does the system stay stable if you disconnect the physical network cable?
    Other recommended actions:


    1. Update your motherboard drivers
    2. Try re-installing the network adapter drivers using compatibility mode (either under Win Vista or XP)

    Uninstall CoverMyTracks immediately. Looks like that's the cause.

    Remove any CD virtualization programs such as Daemon Tools and Alcohol 120%. They use a driver, found in your dmp, sptd.sys, that is notorious for causing BSODs.

    2. Try re-installing the network adapter drivers using compatibility mode (either under Win Vista or XP)

    PROBLEM SOLVED

    I got two resolutions that both could have been right. In my case, it was yours that appeared to be the right answer to the issue. The "cowegt5.sys" that you found, was the issue. I did not found out what it was, or locate any files with that name. But after I un-installed my device and disconnected it. I could easily reboot or shutdown. I think Corega operates with an old driver. I am now on my laptop because I have no Wireless on the stationary (except the faulty Corega Device)

    I guessed that coqwgt5.sys file was CoverMyTracks. Google wasn't much help finding what that driver was.
