lve also found out that text files l edited before installing windows 7 didnt even save.. lm puzzled because l did allot of editing yet after reinstalling its like they havent been edited since the beginning of march... which means lve got allot of indexing to do again.

on another note, l found some ram l could afford so l shall be changing it the moment l get it and hopefully everything will be ok again (yet another reinstall sadly as l wanna be able to use more than 4gb only version l managed to get installed was 32bit after much issues with errors)

(8GB on order ^_^ this time they should all be matched sticks, well all be the same brand at least as l could only afford what l saw on an ebay auction tho they state they are brand new and still packaged, lets hope l got a bargain)

just to update, l installed 8GB of ram and reinstalled the 64bit version, when l reinstalled hoping to fix my above problems l got errors while installing (this time l didnt get any) so far things have been pretty stable, the test that will tell if everything is ok will be unzipping large files as l kept on getting crc errors on large files, shall update this post later.

final update to this thread (sorry for the triple post)

its been a good 18hours since my last post to this thread since changing RAM, lve jumped from 3GB (two matched sticks and one of another brand) to 8GB (they werent exactly matched but they were of the same brand and serial number) so far apart from the odd glitch with updating flash on firefox (reboot fixed the issue) everything has been running sweetly, l definitely notice the difference since l jumped in ram spec.

Win7 really does eat all the ram it can get, after some pretty intensive usage lve had up to 3GB in use however on normal usage l use a nice 1GB, so my issues can definitively be put down to some bad ram, hopefully l can try it in another system and give it more test time for memtest, once l weed out the problem stick (if l can find errors on one of them) l can at least get some money back for the working stuff by selling it to my sister of my mate for some minor upgrades..

in any case, just wanted to thank zigzag and jonathan for their help in troubleshooting my issue, given a few more months l should be able to tech most things myself, but for the moment lm still getting to grips with this OS ^_^.
