    BSOD caused by ntoskrnl.exe

    Hello,

    I have a problem and I hope you can help. Thank you in advance :)

    I am running

    AMD Athlon(tm) 7850 Dual-Core Processor
    4,00 GB RAM
    Asus M2N68-AM SE2 motherboard
    NVIDIA GeForce 9400 GT 1gb

    I have a pretty disturbing Problem with my Computer for some time. I am becoming irregularly BSOD.

    I was running a windows XP 32 bit OS, and I had problems with the sound and with different drivers. I became a some BSOD and the cause according to the WDK (Windows Debugging Tools) minidump check was the driver of my TV-USB Stick, then of my wireless-n usb stick and at the end
    ntoskrnl.exe. At some point I even lost my HDD. As I started the computer the HDD couldn't be find. I have tested it on another computer and it was found. Well I bought a new one for my PC and installed my XP again, but I got again the BSODs. At the end I thought that my 32 bit XP doesn't work good on my system.

    I got an Windows 7 Professional 64 bit licence through my University. I have formatted the HDD and installed the brand new Windows 7 64 bit OS. I was running the computer for a good 2 days. I managed to install and prepare everything as it should be (latest updates etc.).

    And today I got a new BSOD. I opened the minidump with the WDK and the cause is ntoskrnl.exe
    What is actually doing this ntoskrnl.exe ? Why am do I still become this BSOD ?

    I have tested my memory with memtest and other programs. Everything is ok. I have also checked my brand new HDD, and everything is ok.

    I am going even a little crazy thinking of BIOS Viruses. I need the PC for my research at the university and so on. I can't lose it.

    Here what I get by opening the minidump with WDK. (you can find the minidump attached)

    Hi -

    ntoskrnl.exe is the Windows 7 NT Kernel & Executive. NT or other Microsoft drivers show up in BSOD dumps as the probable cause
    because the real culprit cannot be identified as easily as MS drivers can.

    Nice job with Windbg; however, you are missing the symbol files; hence the reason that ntoskrnl.exe showed up as the probable cause. Run Windbg again, first press CTRL+F and paste this SYM path in -
    Code:
    SRV*c:\symbols*http://msdl.microsoft.com/download/symbols
    Additional info --> BSOD Kernel Dump Analysis - Discussion

    Also --> Crash Dumps - Analyse Bugcheck and Process - Vista Forums

    With a corrected SYM path, Windbg will now report this as the probable cause - (dump log at end of post) -
    Code:
    Probably caused by : ntkrnlmp.exe ( nt!KiSystemServiceExit+245 )
    From the dump file - your NT kernel has the correct timestamp on it -
    Code:
    ntkrnlmp.exe Sat Feb 27 02:55:23 2010 (4B88CFEB)
    If you look in \windows\system32, you will find ntoskrnl.exe. RIGHT-click on it, select "Properties", then "Details".
    Note the "Original File Name" = ntkrnlmp.exe

    ntoskrnl.exe = single-processor without PAE
    ntkrnlmp.exe = multi-processor without PAE

    I believe that your system trouble is tied to one of these outdated drivers -
    Code:
    UDXTTM6010.sys Thu Sep 25 23:31:19 2008 (48DC5787) - Terratec Cinergy Hybrid Stick for TV
    Cinergy_Hybrid-Stick_HID.sys Wed Mar 12 05:02:22 2008 (47D79C1E) -  - Terratec Cinergy Hybrid Stick for TV

    WUBS300Nx64.sys Fri Jan 19 05:03:00 2007 (45B09754) - wifi driver ..?

    nvm62x64.sys Fri Oct 17 17:01:06 2008 (48F8FD12) - NVIDIA nForce
    nvstor.sys   Wed May 20 02:45:37 2009 (4A13A711) - NVIDIA nForce Sata Performance Driver

    nvlddmkm.sys Thu May 14 16:48:07 2009 (4A0C8387) - NVIDIA video

    savonaccess.sys Mon Jan 05 06:44:09 2009 (4961F289) - Sophos Anti-Virus

    Cinergy --> TerraTec - Products - TV - Hybrid (Multi-Standard) - TerraTec

    NVIDIA --> Drivers - Download NVIDIA Drivers

    You'll have to find an update for the 3+ year old wifi driver WUBS300Nx64.sys or replace the device.

    My best guesstimate right now is this particular BSOD was caused by your Cinergy
    Hybrid Stick drivers as I see the process that crashed was CinergyDvr.exe.

    However, all of the drivers listed need updates. The apparent old version of Sophos
    a/v should be uninstalled and replaced with MSE.

    MSE --> http://www.microsoft.com/security_essentials/

    At the top of the list is this old Asus ATK0110 utility mobo driver - update it ASAP -
    Code:
    ASACPI.sys   Sun Mar 27 22:30:36 2005 (42476C4C)
    Asus driver updates --> ASUSTeK Computer Inc.-Support-
    ATK0110 driver Download --> Motherboard--> Utility--> Tools
    --> choose OS | expand "Utilities"

    Have a good weekend!

    Regards. . .

    APC_INDEX_MISMATCH (1)
    This is a kernel internal error. The most common reason to see this
    bugcheck is when a filesystem or a driver has a mismatched number of
    calls to disable and re-enable APCs. The key data item is the
    Thread->KernelApcDisable field. A negative value indicates that a driver
    has disabled APC calls without re-enabling them. A positive value indicates
    that the reverse is true. This check is made on exit from a system call.
    Arguments:
    Arg1: 0000000075072dd9, address of system function (system call)
    Arg2: 0000000000000000, Thread->ApcStateIndex << 8 | Previous ApcStateIndex
    Arg3: 000000000000fffe, Thread->KernelApcDisable

    Hi :)

    Thank you very very much for the attention!

    I will try to make the analysis myself, when I have a little more time. I updated the ASACPI.sys it was fast and I just saw a black (MSDOS like screen) for a short then the computer restarted and I hope that everything is updated. (you can take a look at the screen shot)

    I also updated the nvidia drivers.

    The TV Stick has actually the latest driver, well I downloaded it again and installed it, just in case.

    About the WUSB300Nx64, yes it is my WiFi Stick, it is pretty disappointing as I bought it a year ago, and I have the latest drivers, there isn't newer available .

    Right now my WUSB300Nx64 is working ok and TV stick doesn't make the problems very often...maybe once a week or so, and I turn it on every day. It is WUSB300N by Cisco / Linksys.

    http://www.linksysbycisco.com/UK/en/products/WUSB300N

    Is it possible that all the problems related to the drivers are because of the very old AUSUS ASACPI.sys Driver ? (yes the are old, but there aren't newer on the web sites of the manufacturers)

    I don't know what this driver is doing, but if it has something to do with the Processor, may be, when the program is loading or the computer needs a little more resources from the CPU, because of the old ASUS driver the system-CPU connection gets confused ? And that is the reason why I get this BSOD with various drivers.

    otherwise it is pretty disappointing, what a bad luck ! I bought 2 brand new devices and they are causing BSOD and I even cant update the drivers, because there is nothing newer

    Well, if you have a little more time i read it, i would be happy to hear your opinion. It looks like you know what you are doing And as I see how a Finance & Accounting specialist knows so much about the BSOD ? I am asking because I also make a BA in Finance and Accounting.

    Thank you again!

    Best Regards

    The probability of two processes sending the stop instruction (BSOD) at the same time is small to the point of nonexistent. Only one thing directly caused the BSOD most likely. However, it is impossible to determine exactly what it is. It is therefore necessary to list probable causes.

    Do what you can as listed by Griff. You can remove the anti-virus, I know, and use any newer drivers you can find.

    yep, I made it, i updated everything that was listed and possible. I will also uninstalled the SOPHOS anti virus, but I don't think it is the problem because it is updated every time automatically through the University as I receive it by the university (paid).

    thanks now I can just wait... i hope i won't get the BSOD again.

    Hi -

    You did fine with Windbg & symbols.

    The bugcheck = 0x1a = memory management error

    Remove Daemon Tools/ Alcohol 120, whichever is installed. The driver sptd.sys was found in the
    loaded driver listing and it is notorious for causing BSODs in Vista & Windows 7 systems.

    Also, update your Realtek NIC driver -
    Code:
    Rt64win7.sys Thu Feb 26 10:04:13 2009 (49A65B0D)
    Relatek --> Realtek NIC Drivers

    Regards. . .
