Blue Screen of Death with additional UI problems.

Hello there. I recently custom built a new gaming PC and a few weeks into it, I have been repeatedly getting the BSOD. I have checked all the drivers that I know of and checked my HDD for errors but I still seem to be getting the BSOD. Also, my UI seems to return to the default Areo colors before or around the time the BSOD happens. Both the UI color changes and the BSOD seem random. I also am very wary of viruses and other infections so I do not believe it is that. Any help would greatly be appreciated.

Did you by any chance install Windows 7 on 13 April 2010?

25 dumps being processed.

So far I see that you have an out-dated Asus mobo driver - too old for Windows 7 x64 -
Code:
AsIO.sys     Mon Dec 17 04:11:49 2007 (47663D55)
4 steps at the Asus site to update the asio.sys "Cool 'n Quiet" mobo utility driver.

Now looking at my order history, That seems like it is very likely. Is that a problem?

No, not at all.

Just curious of Windows 7 installation date because the BSODs started on 13 April 2010.

Dumps still running and so far the Asus driver is at the top of my hit list for the likely cause of your BSODs, assuming they are software related.

I'm downloading that update as we speak. I really do appreciate you helping me out with this. Obviously, like most would, I was becoming very frustrated.

Hi -

My pleasure to try and help.

It was just 2.5 years ago that I myself was in your position when I saw my very 1st BSOD. I took my system to repair shop to be fixed, which left me with more frequent BSODs. I then learned just enough and was able to solve it with a driver update. So I know the frustration level all too well.

AVG is showing as a probable cause in quite a few of the dumps. Uninstall it and install MSE.

AVG Removal --> AVG Antivirus and Security Software - Tools download

Re-boot upon completion to allow boot and kernel mode drivers to be removed.

MSE --> http://www.microsoft.com/security_essentials/

Back shortly with the rest.

I also see that you have Ad-Aware installed. Remove it as well.

Use Revo to uninstall Ad-Aware --> Download Revo Uninstaller Freeware - Free and Full Download

Re-boot upon completion.

Any other a/v or firewalls installed? If so, get rid of them.

Install MSE last.

Hi -

You are welcome... but there is just a little bit more to do. . .

I have finished reviewing the 25 dumps and there are a few additional driver updates needed -
Code:
RtNdPt60.sys Mon Dec 10 21:49:52 2007 (475DFAD0) - Realtek Ethernet

LUsbFilt.Sys Fri Sep 21 07:05:46 2007 (46F3A58A) - Logitech SetPoint
LHidFilt.Sys Fri Sep 21 07:05:39 2007 (46F3A583) - Logitech SetPoint
LMouFilt.Sys Fri Sep 21 07:05:43 2007 (46F3A587) - Logitech SetPoint

UsbFltr.sys  Mon Apr 09 06:09:44 2007 (461A10E8) - Ortek USB Keypad driver - Waytech Development, Inc.
Logitech drivers --> Downloads

I don't have specs on your Realtek NIC. Check Realtek site -

Realtek --> Realtek

I am unable to locate a good download site for the Ortech/ Waytech drivers at this time. usbfltr.sys is a rather common name and may be for another product.

I see several dumps w/ bugcheck = 0x24 = NTFS file system, which usually refers to HDD issue. Run chkdsk /r then re-boot to allow volume to dismount. chkdsk will run on re-boot.

I am also seeing references to RAM. Is your RAM completely matched? All sticks? It is possible that the out-dated Asus driver or Ad-Aware firewall is causing the "memory corruption" seen in the dumps. However, these bugchecks can be related to RAM itself or other hardware failure that affects RAM -

0x50 = invalid memory referenced
0x1a = memory management error

Then there is this bugcheck related to virtual memory - the page file -

0x4e (0x99,,,) = a Page Table Entry (PTE) or Page Frame Number (PFN) is corrupt

Varying bugchecks usually point to hardware failure, but not always. Get the driver updates done as well as the removal of both AVG and Ad-Aware.

Then run --> DRIVER VERIFIER - Windows 7 & Vista

I know from the dumps that you already ran the Driver Verifier and at least 2 BSODs resulted. One was 0x24; the other 0x4e (0x99,,,). No 3rd party driver was flagged. I think it is prudent to run D/V again as the prior two VERIFIER_ENABLED BSODs may have been tainted by the old drivers and firewall/ a-v apps installed. Also, I don't know what settings you used for D/V.

Regards. . .
