Restart as soon as I login

Hello. Hopefully this is the right forum to post in as there did not seem to be a general troubleshooting forum.

I applied 3 updates a while ago, 2 were updates for ms office and one was a security update for IE. Nothing too critical.

Ever since then though, I cant login to my system. As soon as I login, the computer reboots.

I don't have any system restore imaged available, and safe mode, last known good configuration and disabling automatic restarts make no difference.

I've used MS DaRT to try and read the event logs, however nothing is recorded. I used SFC to verify all files, and they are all fine.

Does anyone have any ideas, even to find out what is causing this?

As a note, I know for a fact this is not virus or malware or hardware related. I would ask you to just accept that, and if you can't and think one of these may be the cause, not to post a reply.

    Thankyou.

    Hi JabbaDabba,

It sounds like you have tried lots of fixes so far, so I apologize if this wastes your time. Good luck and let us know if you make any further progress.

    Hi WalkerA,

No problems, any assistance is always appreciated.

I don't think those problems mirror my situation however, and I have tried what those people did to no avail.

I'll keep trying, but it is quite puzzling at the moment.

Indeed it is puzzling. I'm curious about it though, so do keep us posted if you make any headway. I'm looking forward to seeing what other folks have to say.

Right I had a similar problem before, not with windows 7

I want some questions answered first

Have you touched the back of the computer?

As the problem happened because I remember hitting parts of the computer at the back and it restarts most of the time and never let's me on, usulley

Touching the back of your computer, being careful and making sure power is off then retrying might help

I had this on my xp machine so yeah.

Nope, it's definitely not hardware related

Are you able to get into safe mode at least briefly?

If so... Have you tried creating a new account and logging into that to see if the problem still persists?

At this point I would do a repair install or a clean install ... your choice...

I can't tell if you're actually recommending hitting the computer, SinRival - if so, please refrain from posting that advice here in the future. Using brute force is rarely a helpful solution to any computer issue.
