    Crashing to a White Screen

I know this isn't a BSOD crash, but I haven't got any help from other forums.

Hi all, recently I've had issues crashing to a white screen while playing L4D2. Basically my sound loops for a second, screen goes black, then switches to white, the computer then stays on, forcing me to manually shut it down. This only happens while running games (such as Left 4 Dead or Modern Warfare 2).

I suspect overheating, however my CPU temp is always 40C or so, an my GPU is 70C WHILE GAMING.

I have up to date drivers.

    My Specs Are:

    -Win 7 64 Bit
-ATI Radeon HD 4870 (From XFX)
-AMD Phenom II X4 945 CPU
    -G.Skill 8.0GB Dual-Channel DDR3 @ 669MHz
    -Gigabyte GA-MA790XT-UD4P Motherboard
-750 GB Western Digital Caviar Black Hard Drive

    Any ideas?

    Be welcome to SF!
It really seems to be overheating... to discard overheating, try to play such games with open case - Remember to maintain an obstacle clearance of at least 15cm around the case.

    I have tried the above.

Although it does lower my temps I still get the same crash after some playing. Any other ideas?

Make some changes in the game menu, like lowering the resolution, anti-aliasing ...
I also recommend that you download Speccy - Standard to update your system specifications. It's the kind of information that speeds up the solution of some problems. And if there is anything overclocked, reset to default values. Is DirectX
up to date?! If not: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...a-9b6652cd92a3

what does event viewer say? (type eventvwr in search) go to the windows log>application tab.

You are looking for critical errors (they have red in the left hand column) that say anything relating to the problem.

When you find them note the event ID and source code and relay them to us.

    thanks

    Ok then,

This is the only critical error I'm getting in eventviewer, I'm getting this same error multiple times so I think it's just me restarting my computer after the original white screen crash. Kernel-Power Event 41.
