System randomly deletes application dlls??

I have an infuriating problem with my Dell Vostro 1720 laptop ever since upgrading from Vista Pro to 7 Pro.

Randomly, without any interaction from me, application dlls just go missing. I can install an application one day, and the next, when I try to launch it, I will be prompted with "XXXYYY.dll is missing"

The PC is virus and spyware free and I've applied all Windows updates.

I tried a full repair install of Windows 7 Pro using the CD and the "Upgrade" option, and whilst this did fix the problem temporarily, withing a couple of weeks, the problem was back!

Has anyone else come across this, and can anyone offer any advice? As you can imagine, it is a right pain in the backside!!

Are you using any registry cleaners or optimizers? If so, stop altogether. We agree here that these programs don't do any good, and often create problems.

Thanks for the reply but no, I don't us anything of that sort. No "maintenance" style programs other than anti virus- which is Avira free antivirus.

Any other ideas?

Try doing another repair install, and carefully note when the first problem happens.

First time I hear about such a problem. Here is a website from where you can download .dlls. I know that does not solve your problem but it may temporarily help to keep you operational.

I do wonder if an AV is removing them automatically

Another idea, have a look whether there is a scheduled task that coincides with the disappearance of the .dlls. Run the schtasks command in an elevated Command Prompt.

Thanks for the suggestions. I will try and regularly open one of the applications that regularly dies (Visual Studio - a real pain as it takes about an hour to repair!!).

Next time it dies, I'll dig into the things below. I've disabled my anti-virus for now to see if that makes any difference, but there's nothing reported in the AV app to suggest it has removed anything, and it's a pretty reputable AV program.

Thanks for the suggestions so far, if anyone has anything else, please keep em coming!

Here's a new one. In a nutshell, the problem is caused by a highly fragmented paging file. Cure is to disable, delete, and recreate. Here's the link to Microsoft knowledge base article: Windows 7 deletes all System Restore Points upon reboot

Paint Shop Pro X2 and dlls
New to this...I hope I have posted in the correct place. I have just installed PSPX2 on my new Toshiba laptop 32 bit Windows 7 Home Premium. I have installed 10 dlls given to me specifically for Windows 7, placed them in C Drive System and System 32, as advised. One of them is "at ASP File"....

Restore DLLs from other edition?
I recently downgraded from Ultimate to Home Premium (Both 7 x64). Instead of re-editing some DLLs I have replaced, can I just restore them using Norton Ghost? (shell32.dll, imageres.dll, and shellbrd.dll)
