Random BSOD's New Laptop

Hi all

Just purchased a new Toshiba X505-Q870 about a week ago and I've started getting Blue Screens at a slowly increasing rate after the first few days which due to my sub-superior computer skills, I don't think I'll be able to pinpoint without help. All of them are from the same string (BUGCODE_USB_DRIVER) and with just a couple exceptions, involve only ntoskrnl.exe and usbhub.sys.

Since it's a new laptop, I haven't installed much, just a couple games, SuperAntiSpyware, MS Security Essentials, iTunes, and BlueScreenView so I could at least see what was happening. At first I thought that since it appeared USB related, my optical mouse, iPhone, or Western Digital external HD could be causing the problem so I unplugged each on separate occasions to no avail. I also tried to manually check for driver updates but the solution is never that easy so I'm stuck. I'm not an online gamer so it's not a huge grievance at this point but I would like to work without having to worry about a random BSOD.

Attached is my minidump log in which there should be 9 events. Thanks in advance and I look forward to browsing through the site and picking up on some 7 tips and tricks.

They are still USB related. the driver is USBhub.sys and it has caused all of the below. I am not sure how many external un powered USB devices you have but when the number exceeds 3-4 the voltage drops below 5 volts and random BSOD's will happen.

If the voltage is the problem you can add an external powered hub (one wih AC) and that should eliminate it.

If there arent that many devices you may have to re-install the drivers for the hub, etc.

Let us know if you need help with any of this

Hey ZigZag, thanks for the quick reply. I haven't actually had all three plugged in at once, but I may actually try to do that to see if it will replicate the problem. I also double checked the drivers for the specific devices again and they are indeed up to date. My last theory is to plug my phone into the eSata and put the computer to sleep then awaken it up a few minutes later to see if there's something buggy going on there.

Before I went to bed last night I ran chkdsk /f because the ntoskrnl.exe was the only other constant in the dump files. We'll see if any BSODs pop up today or not. Thanks again.
