Freezes/lock ups
Hey guys, have a slight problem with my computer and was hoping i could get some assistance.
I recently installed Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit on my computer and the first thing i installed on it when i got to the desktop was Kaspersky Internet Security Suite, well afterwards it started to freeze/lock up completely, with the reset button being the only option out. It would literally freeze in under 5 minutes, so when i got to the desktop i uninstalled kaspersky internet security suite and the freezing stopped so i figured id go with another anti virus provider.
So after that bullet i started to let the computer do windows updates, the computer restarted and joy, more freezing...so i assume it hated one of the updates, so i tried a system restore and it said it was successful, but the freezing continued, which baffled me. I dont understand whats causing the freezing, i cant even keep it on long enough to install drivers when it starts up normally, or even in safe mode with networking. Ctrl+Alt+Delete does nothing as well, i have to hit the reset button on my tower. The freezing is rather random, i tried to do the memory diagnostic tool to see if my memory was bad but it froze before it could even begin, it sometimes freezes at "Starting Windows" or at the desktop. Also had some black screens with a small white line on the monitor at one point but that only happened about twice, hasnt happened again.
With the hard drive being so empty i have no idea what is causing all this.
My dvd rom drive is broken atm but im gona be getting a new one this friday, is my only option a repair install, assuming my computer can stay unfrozen long enough to begin the process? When i get my dvd rom drive im gona make a windows 7 repair disc and try that first possibly, if it can burn the disc fast enough before it locks up. If none of this works ill just do a complete re-install/reformat and try to start from scratch.
Im just wondering if anyone else has had this issue, i mean the hard drive is almost completely empty besides the operating system being on it, only things i installed was PC matic, hoping it could update my drivers before it froze but when it did the 3d animating and what not it dawned on me the video card drivers arent present so it froze.
Gota say this is the first time ive had windows 7, let alone a 64 bit operating system and not 32, and this first impression is a nightmare.
If all else fails, i got a Vista home premium 32 bit i can use if windows 7 continues this.
