Windows 7 Home Premium 64 Bit

Freezes/lock ups

Hey guys, have a slight problem with my computer and was hoping i could get some assistance.

I recently installed Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit on my computer and the first thing i installed on it when i got to the desktop was Kaspersky Internet Security Suite, well afterwards it started to freeze/lock up completely, with the reset button being the only option out. It would literally freeze in under 5 minutes, so when i got to the desktop i uninstalled kaspersky internet security suite and the freezing stopped so i figured id go with another anti virus provider.

So after that bullet i started to let the computer do windows updates, the computer restarted and joy, more freezing...so i assume it hated one of the updates, so i tried a system restore and it said it was successful, but the freezing continued, which baffled me. I dont understand whats causing the freezing, i cant even keep it on long enough to install drivers when it starts up normally, or even in safe mode with networking. Ctrl+Alt+Delete does nothing as well, i have to hit the reset button on my tower. The freezing is rather random, i tried to do the memory diagnostic tool to see if my memory was bad but it froze before it could even begin, it sometimes freezes at "Starting Windows" or at the desktop. Also had some black screens with a small white line on the monitor at one point but that only happened about twice, hasnt happened again.

With the hard drive being so empty i have no idea what is causing all this.

My dvd rom drive is broken atm but im gona be getting a new one this friday, is my only option a repair install, assuming my computer can stay unfrozen long enough to begin the process? When i get my dvd rom drive im gona make a windows 7 repair disc and try that first possibly, if it can burn the disc fast enough before it locks up. If none of this works ill just do a complete re-install/reformat and try to start from scratch.

Im just wondering if anyone else has had this issue, i mean the hard drive is almost completely empty besides the operating system being on it, only things i installed was PC matic, hoping it could update my drivers before it froze but when it did the 3d animating and what not it dawned on me the video card drivers arent present so it froze.

Gota say this is the first time ive had windows 7, let alone a 64 bit operating system and not 32, and this first impression is a nightmare.

If all else fails, i got a Vista home premium 32 bit i can use if windows 7 continues this.

If the repair did not work and you have not already done the re-install then when you do, do not install anything except critical Windows Updates (and an AV, Microsoft Security Essentials works better than any others on 7) and see what happens.

You have just solved a problem which has lasted for more that half a year just by simply posting your problem which is same as mine and with that I can comfirm that this random BSOD and Shuttering screen problem has EVERYTHING to do with Windows 7 whether it's a 32 or 64 bit system. Whatever you do don't change any of your hardware it's not your hardware problem but only windows 7 if this problem can't be solve the the only solution is to go back to our sweet old..... old...... beautiful, may God bless her Windows Xp which will prove that it doesn't crash.

Bullocks .... If what you claim were correct then everyone would be experiencing the same problem, and that is far, far from the truth... Since you have not listed your system specs, there is nothing we can suggest... Did you bother running the Windows 7 upgrade advisor to ensure that your hardware is compatible with Windows 7?? Did you upload your .dmp files for analysis?? It seems that rather than attempting to actually resolve your problem, you found it easier to pin all of your problems on the software .... Good luck...

Surprised anyone achually posted a reply, waited a few days and had nothing so i havent bothered checkin the thread till now. Memtest in bios couldnt finish, or start for that matter, it would freeze up, and as for uploading dmp files for anaylsis i have no idea how to do that, never been taught, ive had to learn a lot on my own. The only time it wouldnt freeze was in just "Safe mode" it would freeze in safe mode with networking. Event viewer had several errors that seemed consistent which was

Event 7001, Service Control Manager

The Network list service depends on the network location awareness service which failed to start because of the following error: the dependancy service or group failed to start

Dcom got error 1068 attempting to start the service netprofm with arguements "in order to run the server:

Dcom got error 1084 attempting to start the service Wsearch with arguements "in order to run the server:

1BE1F766-5536-11D1-B726-00C0-4FB926AF

the list goes on, my order on my dvd rom was delayed due to memorial day weekend im guessing, but anywho i did a repair install and so far it hasnt froze once, and my video cards drivers were able to be installed without black screening, and i did a disk cleanup on old system files. Its been running for over 3 hours without a freeze.

The only error i got after this was that windows update got the error 0x80073712, couldnt install a update KB974571, which i have no idea what it was it updated almost immediately when it got to the desktop. Also it said Wsearch was delayed starting but i dont see the big deal in that, its working fine, but we'll see.

Thanks for the replies though, was surprised to see them when i logged on today.

Memtest has to be run from a bootable disk/CD/DVD. It does not run from BIOS. Try the following:

Download a copy of Memtest86 and burn the ISO to a CD using Iso Recorder. Boot from the CD, and leave it running for at least 5 passes.
