BSOD occurances

Hello.

I've been experiencing some randomized BSOD's, during graphical hogging programs and regular DVD/Movie watching.

OS: Windows 7 Home Premium (64bit)
CPU: AMD Phenom II X4 965 3,4GHz - Quad core
Motherboard: Gigabyte MA770T-UD3 - Crossfire
RAM: 1333Mhz, 2048 MBytes x3
GFX: ATI Radeon HD5850 1GB
HDD: Samsung HD103SJ 1000GB
Sound: Integrated VIA High Definition Audio (7.1)
Monitor: BenQ E2200HD (DVI)
PSU: Techsolo TP-730 ATX2.3 730W

I ran a Memtest today to see if there was some issue with the RAM, but came up with 0 errors, which made me belive it could be a driver issue.
I updated MB drivers and a few other drivers, but the problem persists.

Any kind soul out there able to see possibly what could be the issue at hand?

It looks like your video card drivers are the cause. Please uninstall them and install the latest version.

Hi Jonathan.

The 2 old programs there are installed after the BSOD occurred, thus old drivers.

The driver for the ATI card is brand new, but i will uninstall and reinstall after a reboot and see if anything changes.

Have any idea what ntkrnlmp.exe could be, and the cause of it? if you would theorize of course :)

ntkrnlmp.exe is a vital part of Windows 7. It is a core file that is definitely not the cause of BSODs. It is the default file debugging programs blame, when it can't identify another faulty driver.

Right, off to test if any change, sometimes it BSOD's quick, other times it can last for some hour or 2 before anything happends.

Will report back no matter what the outcome will be.

Okay!

Back after i put Battlefield Bad Company 2 into max, and let it go (has worked fine before. but i also didnt upgrade my drivers for the ATI Radeon card until a few days prior to posting here)

I added the new BSOD info in this post.

Googled this dxgmms1.sys BSOD came up with lots of people having issues with Win7 and graphics drivers.

Going to revert to older drivers and give it another go just to see if any difference.

After this rollback in ATI graphics drivers from version 10.5 to 10.1 i did not experience a BSOD for the entire time between these posts, even tho i stressed the system a lot.

However, Battlefield Bad Company 2 rebooted the whole computer the second i clicked "Exit to desktop" from the program, without any BSOD.

The new report looks different than the others aswell, i will include it in this post.

After some testing of different hardware, i belive it's a faulty Graphics card. [ATI Radeon HD5850 1GB].

I tried removing RAM sticks one by one, no change.
I did a test on the HDD which showed errors/bad sectors
Then i decided to exchange the 5850 for a HD4870.

And no errors in the log, and no BSOD's so far.

Cannot be 100% so early but it's been many many hours of running graphical programs that before led to a BSOD.

Will update again when i'm sure of my theory.

Well just proved it wrong today, after some hours of playing games i obtained the good old BSOD again, and it was on the HD4870 card, not the faster/newer one.

think it also gave same error code as the first times with the HD5850 card.

Update, this might help others.

The issue i have/had is pinned down to ATI drivers, went into safemode and removed all ATI stuff with Driver Sweeper, then removed the display drivers.
uninstalled all drivers that remained, registry cleaned to make sure.
right clicked a random hardware for it to pop up as VGA display.

Then i just let the computer sit in 8 hours testing running flash videos which didnt take long for it to crash before, this time. the 8 hours passed without BSOD/crash etc.

did another run as i wanted to make sure of 10 hours of flash video running. PASSED.

no errors in the log either, the cause is the ATI drivers.
Tested with Ati Radeon HD4870 and Ati Radeon HD5850 both got the same BSOD with latest ATI drivers, 0 without any installed.
uninstalled drivers and no BSODs. [remember safe mode, driver sweeper & registry cleaning tool to make sure none is left behind]

Hope this helps someone in the future, least to pinpoint.
