Windows 7: Need help with page fault and other random BSOD

04 Jun 2010   #41

Windows 7

Yes, it ran for 5 passes with 0 errors.

I can confidently tell you that the BSOD errors occur ONLY while playing WoW and ONLY after WoW has run for a period of about 1.5 hours. The problems also only occur in instances (if you've never played WoW, it is a term for dungeons). Also, these problems did not occur in XP. Strangely it also only happens one time per session. I don't know if that's because I don't play it another 1.5 hours usually after it happens or not but it's the only "positive" out of this.

Shortly before I upgraded to Win 7 I did recieve a new Mobo which was very similar to my old Mobo. The mobo is set to run the ram at its factory settings (5-5-5-15 and 2.0-2.1v). Would a RAM issue cause all these problems such as ntfs (which I figured was HDD related) and other issues?

If that is the case, I would need to get new RAM but I don't want to spend money on new RAM just to have the same problems.

I also just a few minutes ago rolled back my video driver. I noticed that while watching a Media Player video the video was choppy and tearing. With an older driver it s perfectly smooth. This driver also did not cause any crashes during my driver verification unlike the newest video driver which crashed every time (this is after the nvoclk driver was gone). I'll run the game again later this week or next to see if it really is a video driver. If I still get another BSOD, I'll put in some of my older corsair dominator RAM to see if it still screws up. The corsair RAM I have is only 2gig compared to my 4gig Gskill but if it ceases the crashes then I'll just need to order new RAM.

I decided to reinstall the game. In the middle of the reinstall I got this

I suggest contacting the developers of the game with your problem.

The latest dmps points to ndis.sys, which is a networking component. Not quite sure what to make of it...

Well I was surfing the web downloading a couple things and installing at the same time. Maybe the comp doesn't like that........

It's installing fine now

Windows 7

Okay I read a few similar instances like mine and they replaced the RAM on theirs and went from 4gig to 2gig and nothing happened anymore. I have been getting crashes with WoW itself along with the BSODs ever since I replaced my mobo and upgraded to Win 7. I took out my RAM and replaced it with my other RAM that I had about a year ago.

I ran the game for a session and no crashes ingame or bsod yet. I won't really know if this worked probably until next week because that's when the more "heavy duty" stuff is run (although I did get a BSOD yesterday while not running that type of stuff). The only real thing I notice hardware wise and other than the game is a bit more choppy when loading stuff up, is that the fan on my GPU seems to be working a little harder. I don't think it is a temp issue because the GPU was running less than 70 degrees and if I'm right they are designed to go to 120.

If it was a RAM issue due to incompatibility or unable to hold up to the game then that'll be a load off my back because it was really frustrating thinking it was a driver the whole time.

I'll let you know how this works out.

Windows 7

Hey! I'm here with an update. Since switching out my RAM I have had zero BSOD or in game crashes over the last week. I'm pretty sure this problem has been solved. I just need to figure out if it was faulty RAM or incompatability that caused this problem even though Memtest had zero problems on the other RAM.

This is the RAM that was causing the problems. - G.SKILL 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 1066 (PC2 8500) Dual Channel Kit Desktop Memory Model F2-8500CL5D-4GBPK

this is the RAM that does not cause problems. - CORSAIR DOMINATOR 2GB (2 x 1GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 1066 (PC2 8500) Dual Channel Kit Desktop Memory Model TWIN2X2048-8500C5D

If any advice could be given then I'd appreciate it because I'd like to have 4gig of RAM on the computer but I don't want it to crash again.
