    BSOD Win 7 Home Premium

    Hello,

Since the 26/05/2010 I've been having BSOD's occur a few minutes after I load up any type of game (WoW/Just Cause 2 etc). I have no issues browsing the net, watching videos, listening to music and leaving my computer on.

I've run memtest for 5 passes and it has shown no errors. I believe I have updated all my drivers but I could be wrong.

I think I've correctly ziped and attached the minidump files required.

If someone could please shed some light on what's happening it would be greatly appreciated.

Edit: Oh I also forgot to mention, I ran sfc /scannow and it did come back saying that somehing was corrupt but Windows couldn't fix it. I can't seem to access the CBS.log (Access Denied). How do I access this and then how do I got about finding the solution? Do I zip it and load it up here?

    Ok

    First
If sfc cant repair the problem it usually means it doesnt have that particular file in its database. the only way to fix it is to do a repair install to find and install it. For the repair install you will need a restore point, a backup, and a win 7 dvd (just in case)

    Second
the DMP's. I did the most recent five for expediency and there are multiple problems.

several were casued by memory. I noticed you said you have run a memory test. Which one and for how long I dont know. You also need to test the mobo memory slots one at a time. Memtest needs to be run for AT LEAST 5 runs.

the other causes for the BSOD's varied, which makes me think hardware. use these to find out what it means and what to try. https://www.sevenforums.com/crash-loc...-what-try.html

Because of the corrupt files (SFC) you cant address the rest till you fix those

Let us know if you need help with this

    Hi,

I'll run another Memtest86 overnight so it goes over 5 passes and see if any errors appear.

In regards to the first point you mentioned regarding the repair instal. Can you run me through the steps of what I need to do before I run the repair, how to activate the repair, what I need to do in case of an error during the repair (you said create a restore point? I don't know how to do one let alone restore from that point) and then once the repair is done what steps I need to do then.

After that I'll tackle your second point regarding hardware etc.

Dont forget to run the memory stick by stick, and the mobo slots as well.

Repair install is easy. Put win 7 dvd in dvd player boot from it.
A menu will come up saying repair my computer (or something like it) click and away you go. You should not lose data, but just to be sure backup first

Hi Ken, thanks I'll go hunt around for my win 7 dvd and try repairing it.

Regarding the Memtest86, can you elaborate about testing each stick and mobo slot?

So what I need to do is remove three sticks and the test the one I leave in the mobo for atleast 5 passes. Assuming no errors, remove that stick from that slot then bring in the second stick into the second slot, 5 passes, rinse and repeat until I've done atleast 5 passes on all 4 sticks in each mobo slot. Is that right?

If I find an error on a slot, I'd want to try another stick in the same slot to see if it's the slot or the stick as well, is that right?

I did a memtest86 over night and this morning before coming to work it was showing 7 passes with all 4 sticks with 0 errors. When I get home tonight I'll try the process you suggested.

    Just a quick update:

I got home and saw that Memtest86 had done 17 passes with 0 errors. This was with all the RAM in the board though. I'll be trying individual RAM sticks later this weekend.

I'll also be running the win7 repair utility tonight as well.

I've run the repair utility for windows 7.

sfc /scannow now shows no errors.

I was testing to see if things had improved but then my system blue screened, windows restarted, then another blue screen.

I've attached the two DMP files, can someone please have a look and indicate what happened this time?

    Thanks

Just had another BSOD. This time while browsing.

I've started doing the steps you provided after I re-installed win7. I've updated all drivers I believe, windows has installed all of its critical updates, nothing is overclocked, my system is showing heat well within normal ranges, I've cleared out the computer for dust, all my fans are working for cooling.

What I can't test is removing hardware with a replacement as I don't have a spare computer handy.

I've noticed before crashes is that my system will hang for a split second, run normally for a while then crash, or the computer will slow right down, run normally, then crash.

    Any help would be appreciated.
