    Laptop not doing anything

I have just been given a laptop from someone because they don't use it and I am charging the battery and when I try to turn it on, the blue power LED keeps fading and it will not turn on. I have to hold the button down for 4 seconds to stop the fading. The model is HP Pavilion ze4500 Notebook PC (AMD).

Sounds like you have a hardware problem. Suggest your visit the HP site.

Will it run on the AC adapter? If not take the battery out and try running from the AC adap.

Yes it charges the battery with the AC adaptor. It still doesn't do anything even if I remove the battery and press the reset button on the bottom of the laptop.

    Hi.
Unplug it, take out the battery, and hold the power button in for 30 seconds, put the battery back in, plug it in, and try to turn it on. If there's life there's hope.

I have another laptop and it is damaged by a linux installation on a USB flash drive and it won't turn on after copying the work off the HDD (taking the HDD out of the laptop and connecting it to my PC via SATA).
