    Random lockups

Hey, I started having a problem with my computer a few weeks ago in which my monitor would shut off, and it sounded like a fan was either being turned off or slowed down. I opened the tower and that is not the case. This literally happens every 15 minutes, and the ONLY way to shut the computer off is to pull the plug. No commands will work when the computer is locked up, and I can't even hold the power button down to shut it off. I really have NO clue what is going on. I'll post my specs, and if anyone can give any sort of advice, I'd greatly appreciate it.

    Gateway
    AMD Athlon 7750 Dual-Core Processor 2.70 GHz
    Installed memory(RAM) 6.00 GB
    System type: 64-bit Operating System
    Windows 7 Home Premium
    NVIDIA GeForce 9800 GT

Do you have a backup from before the problem that we can restore from?

Thanks for the quick reply! I do have one, and I think I'll try that.
Right after I posted this thread, it froze again. After I got the computer back on again, it froze for a second time in a row. I took the side off and have a fan blowing on the inside of the computer now, because the fans actually increased their speed once it locked up, so maybe it's an overheating issue? I haven't changed any settings, and the tower is pretty much completely dust-free now.

We'll see how the system restore goes though. Thanks!

Turns out I don't have one(smart move by me). Should I just backup my important files right now, and continue with the restore?
