Help with Windows 7 x64 Shut Down Problem After New Build

I'm looking for some debugging help, please, or any other suggestions. Very soon after a new PC build, I encountered a problem with Windows7 x64 hanging at shut down when I try to turn the computer off. I have to hold down the power button to shut down or the computer hangs for a few minutes during the shutdown process, reboots, and then flashes the following message:

‘Windows recovered from an unexpected shutdown,’ followed by the problem signature (event name= blue screen), and the additional diagnostic information about the problem (the BCC and BCPs). The files that help describe the problem are minidump files and a Wer-27268-0.sysdata.xml file. I have attached the minidump files (can't seem to load the 3 MB memory.dmp file to RapidShare - the connection times out) and if someone could help me with debugging, it would be much appreciated.

If I reboot after a forced shutdown, the computer boots from a restore point and attempt to repair the problems. The diagnosis and repair details all generate error codes of 0x0. The root cause found is listed as ‘unspecified changes to system configuration might have caused the problem.’ The computer them boots normally.

Here is some other background information that might (or might not!) be diagnostic:

·Built a new PC and enabled AHCI in the BIOS before installing Windows 7 x64
· Installed Gigabyte X58A-UD3R motherboard chipset drivers during the Windows 7 install (followed the motherboard manual instructions)
·Other device drivers were installed (Auzentech Forte sound and XFX Radeon 5850 video) after the OS installation was completed

All seemed to be in order at this point. Since the shutdown problem first occurred after I installed the video and sound card drivers, this seemingly points to a driver issue. Since I an using an add-on PCI-e sound card, I disabled onboard sound in the BIOS during its setup to avoid any driver conflicts.

Device manager does not indicate any hardware problems. The only device whose presence I am unsure of is something called the ATI High Definition Audio Device (I’m not sure what device this is associated with, since I disabled onboard audio during BIOS setup). If this problem is due is a video or sound card driver issue and I obviously need both sound and video drivers, I’m not sure how to proceed. On the other hand, since this is a fresh install, would I be better off just starting over instead of trying to figure out the problem? Thanks in advance for any help.

Thanks very much for the quick reply. I will try your suggestions and post what I find. Did you mean for me to uninstall only ctaud2k.sys (how would I do that?), or the entire device through either device manager or via control panel/uninstall programs?

Its causing problems. Make a system restrore point and uninstall the entire program, unless there is a newer driver you can install. If you are not happy or if that is not the problem, you can go back quickly with the system restore. Unless there is a new driver to install, the program will not work.

BTW use this not the control panel
Revo Uninstaller Pro - Uninstall software, remove programs, solve uninstall problems

Works better than control panel.

I did a very cursory review of your file, since I thought that I saw the problem. If the uninstall does not work, send the new dump file and I will give it a through analysis.

Success!! I'm happy to say that things seem stable now. I've shutdown three times without any issues. I can't thank you enough for your help!

The virus scan was negative; the Sfc /Scannow results did not indicate any integrity violations, and RevoUninstallerPro removed a lot of leftover crap when I uninstalled the sound card drivers. I found a set of updated (but unofficial) Creative Labs drivers for my sound card on the Creative Labs forums (compiled a few weeks ago by a frustrated user who got tired of waiting for new drivers), and they did the trick: I now have sound and the computer shuts down (what a novel concept!). The iaStor.sys driver that you flagged as being out of date is part of the Intel Matrix Storage Manager (for AHCI/RAID controllers) and seems to be part of the latest version of that package, and the Amdxata.sys is a storage filter driver, which, I assume is a part of it also.

Thank you so very much for taking the time to help me out - it is truly appreciated. This is the first computer I ever built and I was wondering if I would ever get it up and running. Cheers!
