What software are you using? You may want to try different software.

Whoops apparently hp first backs up files then writes them to disc. It just seemed a little weird that it was backing it up first.

Getting back to the original issue for a second - your plan is still to back things up then completely re-install?

I'm under 1 yr parts and warranty so i'm turning it into Geeksquad and they're going to send it to HP. I have confirmed this as well.

So I installed the new hard drive and I'm having two problems. The backup program always freezes out before I can fully restore anything other than the favourites option (It allows me to restore specific categories of data). And also it always hiccups when I play tf2 or open several flash windows. Its currently clocking at 1.6 GHz, usually around 800 MHz which is slow for a quad core 2.66 GHZ processor :\ So how do I diagnose hiccups and could it be because that the new hard drive I got was energy efficient and has a higher RPM and Cache? Anyone know any programs to check all my hardware to see if its running at full health so to speak?

First, check your temperatures in the BIOS. CPUs often underclock themselves when they are getting too hot.

Second, run Memtest86+ (it is much more in depth than HP's or Microsoft's memory testers).

    Memtest - Instructions:

Download the ISO (or the .exe for USB drives) from here Memtest86+ - Advanced Memory Diagnostic Tool

Then (if you have chosen the ISO) burn the ISO using IsoRecorder: ISO Recorder v3 Download (Instructions - How to use IsoRecorder)

Boot from the CD/USB and run the test (at least 7 passes per test) with only one stick of RAM in place at a time.

It is a time consuming process but it is the only way to be sure it isn't a RAM fault.

For your final test, run the test with all the RAM in place.

So yeah I ran memtest 1 RAM at a time and they all passed 100% and just in case I put the one in the first slot at the end and the one in the end at the front that way it has priority. But I'm still getting some hiccupping. Could it be that I did not format my hard drive when I first installed Vista and then Windows 7? Also my temperature is around 60 degrees Celsius when I play Tf2 at lowered settings with chrome open and skype calling. My bluetooth cheapo piece still has the same issues that it did when I made that post earlier and I still get the chrome page hiccups where if I load something like a youtube video it kills all the other pages and turns them white making me wait a couple seconds before they reload from Chrome's "loading area".

ok cool i'll try that out one night when I have finished restoring my PC.
I also wanted to mention that right now I am copying about 15 3 GB files off of 300 GB HD onto my PC and I am having extreme lag. I suspect that it has something to do with my disk data transfer rate then. I have 3 GB/s but could it be that since I did not format the drive before I installed vista->Win7 that I'm getting lag. Apparently some HDs have that issue Newegg.com - Western Digital Caviar Green WD10EARS 1TB 5400 RPM 64MB Cache SATA 3.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive -Bare Drive. Its also strange seeing as my old hard drive WD Caviar Green 1 TB SATA Hard Drives ( WD10EADS ) had a 32 MB cache and that first googl one had a 64MB one. So I thought it would be more efficient but it sucks. I'm gonna run that formatter before I reinstall everything and hopefully it will go well, if not i'll come back and whine here :)

So I'm still getting these hiccups after that CPU test for 12 hours and ?I also used Western Digital's Align tool and I verified that my drive was 100% aligned and thus usable for win7. So I also found out that I can't boot into the startup recovery via F11 due to a random bug that occurs when you upgrade to win7 via vista like I did. So I tried making my D: drive the active drive so that it would boot into that but my PC tells me that will make my computer unstartable. Whatdo?
