Windows 7: Regular but seemingly random BSODs, please help?

Third-party firewalls and anti-virus programs are notoriously unstable on Windows 7 and Vista. I advise removing all third-party security, and running with the anti-virus Microsoft Security Essentials, and the built-in Windows Firewall.

Really, that is all you need. Combine those two programs with some common sense about what you download, you should be infection-free.

Yesterday my machine would not boot at all. In desperation I took it round to my local PC repair shop. The guy looked at it, gave it a good clean and noticed some of the RAM was not properly seated and duly fixed that also. Now the machine booted OK but was still way too slow. So I've backed up all essential files and am now re-formatting my C Drive prior to a clean install of Win 7 64bit and hoping to draw a line under this whole affair.

Thanks again to everyone for their input. It's really appreciated.

I'm not sure how much more information I could have put into the title, so sorry if it's insufficient. The problem started the day I built my computer, which was the 4th of December, 2014. The first BSOD I encountered was when I shut down my computer for the first time, after it had 'shut...

Seemingly random BSODs
Hi, I've been experiencing BSODs for a couple of months, but they seem to be getting more frequent recently. It's mostly when I'm running several programs (but not games), but other than that I haven't noticed anything particular. Sorry not to be more specific - I'd be really grateful for any...

Seemingly random BSODs
For a while I've been having some seemingly random BSODs with my new Win7 Hope Premium install. I did have a severe problem with them a while ago but a reformat seemed to help. Unfortunately BSODs seem to have been returned albeit not as bad as with my previous installation (I guess it is a driver...

Been having seemingly random BSODs
My month old desktop has been either freezing/locking up forcing me to do a hard reboot, or just restarting completely on its own since I got it. Only getting the BSODs since I changed the system to not restart automatically. Before that it was just a poof with no explanation. I say random because...

Seemingly random BSODs?
Okay, so I *thought* my computer was fine, but yesterday it started p*ssing me off again. What a surprise... If you knew how many BSODs this friggin system has gone through, you would be surprised. Anyway, I've gotten 2 BSODs since I thought it was fixed. No minidump files have been produced and...
