    Very sudden crash launching game

    Hey,

I was going to play Garry's Mod and I got a BSOD. This hasn't ever happened before, and of course I'm going to right away try updating my video driver, but I thought it would be prudent to have someone check out the minidump, just to make sure nothing else is wrong.

So if someone could take a look at this, I'd appreciate it, I have no clue how to read these things.

    Thanks!

I'm more than happy to help you. I was about to go to bed (10:40 pm here)
    STOP 0x0000003B: SYSTEM_SERVICE_EXCEPTION

Usual causes: System service, Device driver, graphics driver, ?memory
you were right when you update your video card driver, but remember to remove all trace of old driver before updating new one. When you update your video card driver, it never hurt to update directx as well:
    http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...displaylang=en

You have some driver need to be updated if there is new version of it:
    Code:
    fffff880`01354000 fffff880`0136e000 SI3132 SI3132.sys Thu Oct 04 01:39:29 2007 (4703E1E1)
    fffff880`01854000 fffff880`0185c000 SiRemFil SiRemFil.sys Thu Jun 21 02:42:10 2007 (46798312)
    fffff880`013d9000 fffff880`013e2000 SiWinAcc SiWinAcc.sys Fri Jun 15 07:02:02 2007 (4671D6FA)
    They are Silion Image drivers

    And
    Code:
    Lachesis Lachesis.sys Fri Aug 17 14:48:44 2007 (46C552DC)
it is your Razer Lachesis Mouse driver

Virtual CD program such as Deamon tool or Alcohol 120% are well known for causing BSODs. I would suggest your to remove them completely if BSODs keep chasing you. Use this tool to remove sptd.sys, which is component of those virtual CD program
    DuplexSecure - Downloads

Third party anti-virus software is known for causing BSOD, when I look at your dmp, I can see that you are using Kapersky, however, we will discuss about it if BSODs still happend, otherwise, you good to use Kapersky

    Code:
    BugCheck 3B, {c0000005, fffff960002cc4c6, fffff8800d3e0980, 0}

    Probably caused by : win32k.sys ( win32k+22c4c6 )

    Followup: MachineOwner
    ---------
you might want to run system file check as well:
SFC /SCANNOW Command - System File Checker

    Good Luck friend

    Thanks for the quick response!

Yeah, I just noticed I was using video drivers from NVIDIA Release 197, so ... yeah, time to update. I think the NVIDIA installers automatically remove the old driver before they put the new one on ... is there something else I should be doing to ensure a smooth upgrade??

I'll have to look through Windows Update, etc, for those other drivers. I don't have a consistent BSOD, this is probably the fourth one I've gotten in a year, and Daemon Tools and Kaspersky have never given me any problems like that, so hopefully no problems there.

    Thanks again!

OK, I updated the video driver and the game is now launching with no BSODs, so I'd say problem solved! (Of course the game itself seems to be broken in another way now for some other reason, so I have to go fix that. ) Thanks for your help!
