really boring

hi all
am trying to run chkdsk in vista home
have gone in via cmd and set admin privs
start to run chkdsk from c propt and it runs to about 50% then stops and tells me it cannot continue in read only mode
it has along the way found endless files saying the likes of
index entry e_df1bze.cat in index $130 of file 307835 is incorrect


any helpers welcome

If you have a backup ( or dont need the data) run chkdsk /f/r. It will repair and fix. It may ask to be rebooted.

What is the "bigger" problem?

last fri system went awol
tried all sorts of things but only a disc from spotmau, Powersuite got me in
it booted from disc and found a copy of vista
now if i boot it it goes cannot read flopy go f1
at f1 says no os found put in os disc to cd drv
then says no os found in cd drive

next method boot to f12 go to start from cd
says cannot read from cd etc


go to next method

bott f12
start from po-st3320620as
says no os
go to f1
press f1 boots to hard sat drive

all diags show all ok
new bios from dell says all at factory settings
all that should be is enabled
bios says floppy (internal) not present
and dual sata not present
so always booting from hard disc via f12

have not trie chkdsk/ options ye tas still hoping to get some sort of normality without formatting disc etc

Check your HD.
1) Boot DVD, & Press Shift+F10 (for command prompt)
2) Boot DVD, & Command Prompt at Startup command prompt)
Disk Check


Check with a hard drive diagnostic tools.
