    Constant BSOD's on wife's computer

My wife and I have the exact same computer. Tried switching various parts from mine with hers with the same results. She constantly gets BSODs and I never get them. Went so far as switching the entire computer leaving just her HDD. Again hers (the one with her HDD in it) BSODs constantly. I did a chkdsk and it came up clean. The last error was:

Make sure you have all updates
    Check memory
http://memtest.org/ Run for 6 passes. Check each stick separately.
    If overclocking, restore original settings
Run an anti virus scan and download and run malwarebytes
    Run an SFC

Rather than make a complete time consuming analyis, uninstall zone alarm. If problem continues post with new dump report. Use the unistall tool: Warning, this is a direct link to the tool

Thanks for the fast response rich. I'll try that first and get back to you. :)

Seems a bit odd that it would be the problem since it has been installed since we got the computers, but I guess you never know which updates (windows or zone alarm) might make things suddenly stop working properly. I have ZA on mine as well with no BSOD's. (just thinking out loud here trying to understand why hers is the only one acting up) lol

I made my analysis from your dump reports. They are sometimes subjective and never definitive. We can do one step at a time using our best judgement. I think it is ZA. If wrong you see the other causes, check the ones that are easy for you. If it doesa not work send the new reports. If we compare the two we will have more than twice the information. Take care and good luck

EDIT: I have seen many in your situation, this is not new.

Use Microsoft Security Essentials. Free, made for Windows and I have not seen one BSOD yet.

Yes that definitely makes sense. I am installing MSE as we speak after seeing that one recommended in several other threads here. Thanks again for making sure I was steered towards the right one. :)

You are very Welcome. At SevenForums every member is treated like family. Tell your friend about us, too.

Use MSE in conjunction with malwarebytes for malware and dont forget the firewall.

Just an update Richard. She was able to play her Sims tonight for about an hour tonight with no bluescreen. A record compared to other times she has tried lately. Will give it another couple of days before I call it "solved" but it looks promising. :)

Those reports are not definitive, it usually takes 2 or 3 BSOD with the report to fix the computer. In this case, I have a very strong feeling that with ZA out of the way, all will be good.

Now how about the other computer, why not install MSE, now. Avoid potential BSOD and get a great A/V for no cost. You can use the Windows Firewall.

Well 2 days with no BSOD Richard. I can't believe it was something so simple. Thank you very much for responding and solving the problem, also my wife says thank you. :)

Yes I think I will be replacing the a/v and firewalls on all of the computers we have. I'll have to hunt around and try to learn more about the errors in the dmp files as well. Would be nice to be able to find the problems myself :)

I will definitely start spreading the word about this site. Thank you again.
