Aero causes Windows 7 64-Bit to freeze when resizing browser windows

    Hey everyone,

I built a machine from scratch yesterday, and everything went fairly well. I installed Windows 7 Professional 64-Bit, and it seemed to be running fine. However, after I got the system to boot and installed all the latest drivers for my hardware, I noticed that whenever I would try to resize a browser window (IE, Firefox, Chrome, even Windows Explorer), the system would freeze, and then I would have to do a hard reset to get it to come back on. After trying a few different browsers, I decided to disable Aero and use a basic theme rather than an Aero theme, and the problem seemed to go away. I also fired up Half-Life 2 and it seems to run at full specs without any problems, so I'm fairly sure that it's not an issue with my graphics card.

My question is, is this a bug with Windows 7, or does it seem to be more hardware related? I'd like to be able to use Aero, but it's not necessary and I'm more concerned that this is an issue with my graphics card that is going to pop up when I'm doing other things.

    Here are my system specs:
    OS: Windows 7 Professional 64-Bit
    CPU: AMD Phenom II X4 955 3.2ghz
    Motherboard: Gigabyte GA-770TA-UD3
Graphics: MSI 1gb ATI Radeon HD 5770
    RAM: 4gb G.Skill DDR3 1333mhz
Hard Drive: Western Digital Caviar 640gb 7200RPM
Optical Drive: Sony Optiarc DVD/CD Burner
PSU: Antec BP430, 430W Power Supply

Thanks in advance for any help you can offer. :)

    Hi,
I'd look into your video card and drivers as the problem and not Win7.
Also make sure Win7 sees your monitor correctly.

Win7 doesn't seem to have any issue seeing my monitor correctly, though I suppose that depends on what you mean by "correctly." As far as I can tell, the monitor is working beautifully.

Also, I've updated to the latest ATI Drivers and the card is brand new (I literally just got it yesterday).

Another issue that popped up was a message saying something along the lines of "Graphics Driver crashed but was recovered" with Aero enabled, but the problem seems to have stopped with it disabled.

    Thoughts?

    Thanks again.

hey Hi, I have the same problems too. Can't resize or all my display stop working, except for the mouse pointer. I also saw your other error message once or twice. I tried 2 video cards and I have the same issue. I was about to throw a mace in that PC. I just bought it (used) and can't really use it this way.

How exactly do you turn off Aero? I'm new to Win7 and can't find exactly where I can shut that thing off.

    Thank you

For future reference. You should start your own thread. this one is abt 2 months old and I doubt you would have gotten any response here.
