Hello !! Welcome to SF !!

We need some more information before troubleshooting. Please open an elevated (Run as administrator) Command Prompt and type "msinfo32 /nfo C:\Users\Public\Desktop\TEST.NFO" (without the quotes) and press Enter. Then navigate to the C:\Users\Public\Desktop directory to retrieve the TEST.NFO file. If you have difficulties with making this work, please post back.

Good Luck,
Captain

Hello,

If you have any Virtual drivers like Alcohol 120 or Daemon tools uninstall it. Also i would recommend to uninstall ESET as well also use the Removal Tool to clean the left over entries ESET Knowledgebase - Uninstallers (removal tools) for common antivirus software then you could download and use Microsoft Security Essentials. Also download Malwarebtyes and run a complete scan. Post us back how it goes

Good Luck,
Captain

Hi....
tried your suggestion!!! Though the speed of the system has improved a lot, the earlier problem persists.

A video/movie works fine for about 10-15 minutes and then suddenly the system freezes/hangs-up.
The same problem occurs while downloading or leaving the system idle..
