    BSODs BugcheckCode 9F

Have been having recurring BSODs. I can find no common set of circumstances under which it crashes - they appear to be at random. Haven't been able to narrow it down.

    A typical critical error:

    BugcheckCode 127

    BugcheckParameter1 0x8

    BugcheckParameter2 0x80050031

    BugcheckParameter3 0x6f8

    BugcheckParameter4 0xfffff800028c1f5f

    SleepInProgress false

    PowerButtonTimestamp 0

With the exception of parameter 4 the codes are the same on all crashes.

I attached minidumps. Crashes are much more frequent than the number of dumps.

    sfc/scannow does not produce errors.

It has consistently happened on multiple clean installs I have performed.

Not sure where to go next and would greatly appreciate any help.

    17 memory dumps - from 24 Jun to 17 Jul 2010 (about 4 weeks)
All appear to be STOP 0x7F errors, blaming the OS kernel.

More info on the STOP 0x7F here: BSOD Index
Please note the "Usual causes" section at the top of the section.

    Start with these free diagnostics:
    H/W Diagnostics:
Please start by running these bootable hardware diagnostics:
Memory Diagnostics (read the details at the link)
HD Diagnostic (read the details at the link)

Also, please run one of these free, independent online malware scans to ensure that your current protection hasn't been compromised: Malware (read the details at the link)
You also have a known BSOD driver installed. The 2005 version of the Asus ATK0110 ACPI Utility driver (ASACPI.sys) is known to cause BSOD's in Windows 7 systems. Please visit the Asus website and download the latest version of the ATK0110 ACPI Utility driver. Depending on your system/motherboard it'll either be in the ATK section or the Utility section of the downloads page. ASUSTeK Computer Inc.-Support-

If that doesn't stop the BSOD's, please run Driver Verifier according to these directions:
Using Driver Verifier is an iffy proposition. Most times it'll crash and it'll tell you what the driver is. But sometimes it'll crash and won't tell you the driver. Other times it'll crash before you can log in to Windows. If you can't get to Safe Mode, then you'll have to resort to offline editing of the registry to disable Driver Verifier.

So, I'd suggest that you first backup your stuff and then make sure you've got access to another computer so you can contact us if problems arise. Then make a System Restore point (so you can restore the system using the Vista/Win7 Startup Repair feature).

    Then, here's the procedure:
    - Go to Start and type in "verifier" (without the quotes) and press Enter
    - Select "Create custom settings (for code developers)" and click "Next"
    - Select "Select individual settings from a full list" and click "Next"
    - Select everything EXCEPT FOR "Low Resource Simulation" and click "Next"
NOTE: You can use Low Resource Simulation if you'd like. From my limited experimentation it makes the BSOD's come faster.
    - Select "Select driver names from a list" and click "Next"
Then select all drivers NOT provided by Microsoft and click "Next"
    - Select "Finish" on the next page.

Reboot the system and wait for it to crash to the Blue Screen. Continue to use your system normally, and if you know what causes the crash, do that repeatedly. The objective here is to get the system to crash because Driver Verifier is stressing the drivers out. If it doesn't crash for you, then let it run for at least 36 hours of continuous operation (an estimate on my part).

Reboot into Windows (after the crash) and turn off Driver Verifier by going back in and selecting "Delete existing settings" on the first page, then locate and zip up the memory dump file and upload it with your next post.

If you can't get into Windows because it crashes too soon, try it in Safe Mode.
If you can't get into Safe Mode, try using System Restore from your installation DVD to set the system back to the previous restore point that you created.

If that doesn't work, post back and we'll have to see about fixing the registry entry off-line:
    Code:
Delete these registry keys (works in XP, Vista, Win7):
            HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Session Manager\Memory Management\VerifyDrivers
            HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Session Manager\Memory Management\VerifyDriverLevel
More info on this at this link: Using Driver Verifier to identify issues with Windows drivers for advanced users

Thank you very much for your reply! I know it is not the memory - I have run memtest on it and swapped out to different sticks as well. I will look into the driver and hard drive issues first and post back any results. Thank you kindly for your time.

    Update:

I consider this issue solved. After crossing off some of the items on the linked error code you presented I found it was a buggy version of a 3rd party firewall (Zone Alarm). Have been crash free for 4 days now. Thanks a lot usasma - wouldn't have figured it out without your guidance!

Glad you are up and running smoothly. Zone Alarm is notorious for causing problems on some Win 7 systems. Did you update ZA or did you uninstall it?

Uninstalled. I never had a problem with it before in XP so it wasn't high on my list of things to investigate.

I am glad you uninstalled it. I still run it on my XP laptop with no problems. It just does not play well with Win 7. Most third party security suites and firewalls have problems with Win 7.
