Another BSOD - 7f

I've got a fairly new laptop with Windows 7. I think I started having the unexpected shutdowns (BSOD) after I updated the BIOS -- done because of recall problem and manufacturer's instructions. Attached is results of SF Diag Tool. I will run memtest86 shortly.

Thank you in advance for your assistance.

Another BSOD - 7f part 2

Well, the good news is that I was able to run Driver Verifier as directed. Computer crashed almost immediately upon the restart. But no minidump was created -- total lockup. (Tried twice.)

Message on screen listed stops at 0xC4 (both times), 0xF6 (both times) 0x580 on first try, 0x1B4 on second ... listed SFEP.SYS with datestamp of 46b2beb9 (both times).

Reported it was collecting data for crash dump and Initializing disk for crash dump. Waited for 20 minutes second time but nothing happened.

Suggestions?

sfep.sys is a driver for a Sony Vaio used in things like brightness control and such (some sort of extension .dll). As to why it won't allow or create a dump, is hard to say. You probably want to boot to safe mode with networking, or the last known good config, and see if you can update sfep.sys after you're able to boot in.

We really need the DMP file. Have you searched for *.dmp? from the info you have provided I can give you some information. The faulting module seems to be your Sony Firmware Extension Parser driver - Driver (SFEP.sys) I would update it from sony and re-install.

The C4 and F6 errors are just driver verifier errors..

I just searched for more *.dmp files -- only found Memory.dmp from 1:21 pm yesterday.

>update it from sony and re-install

I'm guessing you mean re-install SFEP.SYS, not everything? I will do that.

Thanks,

I had to contact Sony support -- can't fiind SFEP.SYS anywhere. Could take up to 24 hrs to get response. Wondering if I can skip loading that file? Then I could run Driver Verifier again and hopefully get a *.dmp file to work with.
