it doesn't take THAT long, and i was thinking that it'd be better than him using the XP disc to format the drive and then cancel the XP setup.

Ok, so while in safe mode i disabled the following services via msconfig:
Apple Mobile Device
Bonjour Service

And I set quicktime not to open upon startup.

Now everything is working again... Hmm...

I think MS should disable all start up programs, and make it pop up UAC for any program that wants to add itself into start up folder/registry or even services... I would reject pretty much everything..

Sue Apple for sabotaging Windows 7. That's anti-competitive behavior no matter what your views are.

Ok, false alarm. It's still doing it, but much less frequently. andythecurefan, I downloaded Gparted and burnt it to a CD using magicISO but it won't boot up. I downloaded the official stable ISO for x86 systems and magicISO said it was bootable, so idk what's up. I'll figure out a way to format it though, because I think that is the root of all my problems. Everything was fine until I tried to do that. If it doesn't work this time then I'll just reinstall xp and wait for the official release of seven. And cry. A lot.

Never thought it could be your psu. Same thing was happening to me and it was the psu. It just kept shutting down randomly and at no specific time. Sounds very similar to your problem.
