What is a Stay at Home Server??
I know this is a W7 forum but it was funny enough that it had to be posted...
The Insider: Servers are kids' play in Microsoft's new bookThe Insider: Servers are kids' play in Microsoft's new book
NOT SO GOLDEN BOOKS: Spotted on The Drudge Report last week, an ad linking to stayathomeserver.com, a site advertising, "Mommy, Why is There a Server in the House?"
That's the title of a book released this year by Microsoft's Windows Home Server marketing team.
Marketing team? Yes, it's a little difficult to tell, considering that the byline on the cover is "Tom O'Connor, Ph.D."
Open the book, though, and the secret is revealed on the flip side of the title page:
The fine print: "Just so you know, Tom O'Connor does not actually have a Ph.D. He is also not actually a person. And the entire premise of this book is fictional. But on the bright side, a Windows Home Server is a real product. Perhaps you'd like to buy one!"
(There's even more fine print below about how "Use of Windows Home Server's remote access features may require additional services from your broadband provider, such as access to certain 'ports' that some providers may block for customers on some service plans.")
Whoopee!
Some excerpts from the book:
Page 5: "When a mommy and a daddy love each other very much, the daddy wants to give the mommy a special gift."
Page 6: "So he buys a 'stay-at-home' server.
Anyway, the book tells some of the joys of a Windows Home Server ("Your family can share pictures, and music, and almost anything else. You can even share files with people outside the house!").
It also assures the dear readers that they might be made fun of for having a home server, but that's just because other people are jealous.
Nonfictional: The book costs $5.95.
On Friday, there was one copy for sale on Amazon.com.
Writes Amazon reviewer "Boomzilla":
"My kids loved this book so much that they insisted that I buy them others in the same series including ... 'How to be the Best at Firewall Configuration (The Boy's Book)', 'Big, Bad Bill And The Blue Screen of Death' and their all time favorite 'Everybody Poops'."
was LMAOing all the time...
