Talking of being late, I once arrived for work at 8:30 am when I should have been there at 8:00 am.
The boss barked; "Where were you at 8 o'clock?"
I replied; "Why? What happened?" and was promptly sent home and docked a day's pay for insolence!
I used to arrive at work at approx 7:30am rather than the 8:30am I was contracted to be there, as I found the hour before everyone else arrives allowed me to complete a lot of system tasks without the problems of "the users".
This stopped when one day I arrived at 8:05am due to problems and was greeted with "Oh there you are, we thought you were ill and not coming in" (I also had not missed a day for illness in fifteen years).
From then on I "worked to the Clock"
