    Dwarf's Tenuous Links

Here is a thread that will hopefully answer your questions about my links in the Word Association thread.

I shall give the previous word(s) and then my word(s), followed by the actual link itself.

    Try these for starters.

    Mr Kipling, Saskatchewan

Kipling Airport is located near Kipling, which is in the province of Saskatchewan, Canada.

Ruperts Land, James VI & I

James VI & I was the maternal grandfather of Prince Rupert of the Rhine, after which Rupert's Land was named.

    Stuart Little, Brooklin Boatyard

Brooklin Boatyard was once owned by Joel White, the son of E. B. White who wrote the children's book Stuart Little.

    Jennifer Lopez, Joseph Robbie

Jennifer Lopez is a part-owner of the Miami Dolphins, which was founded by Joseph Robbie.

If you have any more, please ask and I will give the explanation/link here.

Note that this is for MY links only.

The whole point of a word association thread is to post the FIRST thing that comes to mind, I highly doubt your answers were the first thing (Jennifer Lopez.. c'mon.. pretty sure we all think about that beautiful thing in between her lower back and legs lol).

Either way though, very interesting answers!!

Kirsch - wash your mouth out with soap!

I agree with what you say, however I think that it's a bit more interesting if some of the links aren't immediately obvious. It does us good to give the little grey cells a workout now and again. Question: Who is the phrase little grey cells associated with?

    Another of my links:

    Someone, Linguistics

Linguistics is the scientific study of language. Language is divided into parts of speech, of which pronouns are one part. The word Someone is a pronoun.

And you are not supposed to use the string of words associated before it to continue the thread. As my last post was bass

you would think fishing? but if you look at the word before it acoustics, you would think guitar probably.

I think the thread is the most fun when it is just your first thought on the word. Even if you don't know the word.....

I can see your point. However, there is a simple explanation. When I reply with a linked word or words, the last post that I see is the one that I am linking to. Of course, others may also be posting at the same time as me, and it is only when I've posted that I've seen the other replies that were made.

yes... this makes it hard to keep the chain going correctly. I try to edit mine by saying "Missed" or "oops too late" and then a new word to continue the thread...

And its good to know you weren't basing it on the previous word associations. This is the spirit of Word Association Thread (WAT) < I just made that up....

there is another type of thread... a more useless thread that is mainly just for raising post counts. It is called "Mine"

Each poster simply states that they are stealing the thread and then the word "Mine" to proclaim ownership. its fun, but mainly just silly and for mass posting back and forth.....

Back to the original thread. Perhaps if we also type the word that we are referring to it would help.

LOL We should totally have one of those (even though I know it wouldn't last more than 5 minutes)

This is pretty cool, the word association thread is so popular it's got it's own spin off.

I don't think we need any strict rules on a fun thread, I don't mind putting my 3 or 4 brain cells in overdrive sometimes.
