"Ability to rep in the this, the Chillout Room, and the News Forum has been disabled due to over repping for non-helpful posts."I do not agree with this!

According to me, not only "help" deserve rep'.
I know we need rules but here we go too restrictive...

For example, if somebody has made a very good set up, if he (she) has passed time to collect nice & original elements, moreover if he (she) shares with us those novelties,
    then he (she) deserve rep'...
Another, if i do not have time to browse sites & sites searching wallpapers (it's not my case, but i imagine...), and i can find here a selection of the best stuffs available on the web, Why couldn't i thank someone by reppin' him for the search he made for me? Isn't this a kind of help...?

I agree with that fact : there had been over rep' in certain case (yes, there had...), but wiping out ability to rep is what i call an "ultra solution" and is not the solution!

What if we would suppress cars because of the fact that some guys drive too fast...? Non-sense...

Please don't see here any agressivity or offense, only sadness, sadness that we, human beeings, are not able to act normally and humbly...

    Cheers.

+1 but some persons would get badges just by posting wallpapers but not by helping others

The removal of giving rep in the Chillout and News forum was reached and set in place months ago. It was discussed by many and the majority agreed with the decision. Too much rep abuse was going on for posts that did not warrant a rep at all, and many were advancing on just that. It's a catch 22 and somewhat flawed, but users advancing in status considerably on junk post rep is not fair to others in the community that earn the rep with actual help. If some measures aren't put in place, then the whole system loses all meaning.

There is nothing stopping anyone from just saying 'Thank You' to a post that wouldn't fall under the main reason for the rep system.

I have no problem with the no rep areas. It is a windows 7 forum, and while helping someone by making them something, or showing them how to do something should have the ability to be repped. Finding wallpaper, while appreciated, isn't really helping...it's sharing. Creating a theme, sigs, avatars, docks etc. takes effort, and is an original creation, so I would think that deserves rep. The news section, and chillout, again, I see as no rep sections. I see both sides, but don't think we should be creating gurus of people who don't help posters with problems. There will be no perfect solutions, but I think the rules here are equitable. A Guy

As a tech forum, where should we draw the line? Rep from working tech help and / or solution, OK. Rep from a tailor-made sig, OK. Rep for finding a nice pic of a kitten on the web and posting it so I can download and use it, OK? Rep for posting a cool skateboard video which made my day, OK? Rep for telling a joke haven't heard, OK?

Another member told in "What are you listening" that he's listening my favourite artist. Rep? That new guy has a funny slogan in his sig. Rep?

I remind you, this is a tech forum.

Thanks for your reply, it took these words as an example, sorry i didn't know about it before, i'm on that track because of the rep button removed in the "post your desktop" thread, inconceivable according to me...

Unfortunately, the controversy is growing and growing...
I felt last week it was going bad, and made a thread specially for sharing wallpapers (even if you wish without rep) but it's been deleted... Tried yet as it seems...
Ok for that, but what do we do for the guys (and gals, sorry ladies...!) who are the most skilled in custom... Don't they deserve reputation for that anymore?

Fortunately, i think i have other skills but custom is my stuff indeed, not that i'm searchin' for rep' but honestly this is for us something motivating...

    Friendly!

I totally agree with Airbot, there were a few that made guru and gold member and never ventured away from customization forum. This is a tech forum where hundreds of people a day need help fixing their comp's and it's really gradifying if you can help them solve their issues. You may not get any rep, but i've had many thank you's. Just my 2 cents
