And speech: what a fabulous feeling when I can already talk so that people can (almost) understand me, although left side of my mouth is still useless, hanging a foot or two lower than the rest of the mouth ...

Weekend ahead, no physiotherapy or speech lessons, just relaxing. Home bar fully stocked, a giant piece of reindeer sirloin waiting to be grilled. Angie more beautiful than ever before.

I'm happy and very much in love.

Today started the Kaamos back where I'm from, in Lapland. Word Kaamos comes from Sami language, spoken by Sami people in arctic regions of Scandinavia. It means a polar night; after sun was set yesterday, it's not rising until end of January. It's a two month long night, opposite to our two months long midnight sun period in the summer when sun is almost two months visible and we have daylight 24/7.

A dear friend sent an email today, sent at 1:30 PM. It was -31°C (-24°F), snow depth 30+ centimeters (12 inches) and pitch dark, he wrote, telling also about the traditional party yesterday. Friends gathered together to say Good Bye to Sun (normally we Lapps need no excuse to party, but this one is good).

It's two times a year I miss home especially much, after 25+ years living abroad. The last day to see the Sun, end of November, when we used to sit outside with friends, drinking Glögg and watching sunrise and sunset within 40 minutes, preparing for the long Polar Night. And the same party in end of January, first appearance of the Sun.

A Lappish joke:

A suspect is questioned by police. Suspect's alibi is not clear, so the questioning police officer asks:
-"Where did you spend the night between November 29th and January 23rd?"

Life is Good! Mac OSX sux!

Kari

P.S. Thanks to all your dear fellow geeks for the supporting comments regarding my recovery.
Thanks, Kari. I really enjoy information like this. I cannot imagine a couple of months of night. I would not like that - especially coupled with brutal cold.

It's 5:45 AM, been already awake over an hour. Could sleep a bit under 3 hours. Haven't slept over 4 hours a night in ages. Those strokes didn't kill me but I'm starting to believe this insomnia is going to do just that.

Since I joined the Seven Forums, I've been addicted. Before retirement, I even lost a couple workdays, beeing too tired to work after an allnighter here. No problem, I found a balance which suited both me and Angie, and my work. Now, SF is the thing that makes this, not beeing able to sleep enough, a bit easier. I've promised to Angie I don't loose my sleep because of SF, meaning I'm going to bed every night with her, but she has said it's OK if I come back online after those few hours I can sleep.

Anyway, something has to change. I need more sleep. That's why I'm going to meet a shrink today. I've met her a couple times already, she is specialized to treat people after a serious injure, stroke etc., helping to cope with a big change in life. I was sent to see her in first place by my neurologist. I only met her a couple of times, after which I decided it was a waste of time. Friday I called her and made an appointment, telling that I can cope with my life as it is, I am so grateful to be alive and recovering well, but I need help to be able to sleep. Luckily she had an opening today.

So, today shrink followed by speech therapy. If the shrink is really good, I should be able to sleep 9 hours minimum next night. Or?

Anyway, Life is good! Mac OSX sux!

Here's hoping for the best Kari. It isn't smoke and mirrors, but it isn't fine science either, but there is something to it, and I hope they can help. A Guy
