I suffered from some trauma that caused insomnia a while back, and what helped me out the most was the thing I turned to last, a medication. Ambien saved me from my insomnia, I took it for about three or four weeks, and I now sleep 8 hrs a night like clockwork, no matter when I retire

Kari, I wish you well in overcoming insomnia. That can be a really tough one to overcome.

    Kari,
The first thing you need to ask yourself is what are you doing and eating before you go to bed!
If you are eating dinner along with coffee/alcohol followed by deserts(Chocolate) could be one of the problems.
Always eat 3-4 hours before retiring.
I have an Rx for Ambien XR for ONLY those nights when the day has been stressful and Donna has had a rough day. Sometimes I can't sleep because of the fear of me dying and who is going to take good care of Donna?
Sometimes you can Psyche yourself out by thinking about getting a good night sleep and because of this you can't sleep.
Open yourself up to the Psychiatrist by being honest and laying it out all there. Tell he/she exactly what you are thinking and doing through your normal day.
We are all behind you and want you 100% healthy so you and Angie can enjoy the rest of your life together.

That's my story and I am sticking to it!

Well said Dennis, hopefully Kari will take notice and be able to open up and let the psychiatrist help.

Kari we know you are making wonderful progress but you need to get this sleep disorder sorted out so that you can continue to heal fully.

    Thanks for sympathy, geeks :)

Met the shrink, talked about insomnia. We are going to try without chemicals, at least for now. I'm already eating so many different pills because of this stroke treatment, I do not want to drug myself anymore if it's absolutely not necessary.

Basically, everything should be OK. I am quite a happy man; I am where I want to be, with whom I want to be, doing what I want to do, I have no relationship problems with family and friends. I eat vegetables and fruits almost every week , do not drink a fraction as much as earlier. I'm recovering surprisingly well, have accepted that my earlier lifestyle caused the strokes and am willing to change the lifestyle to stay on this globe of ours as long as possible.

Let's see what the shrink can find. Angie said it's good my head is so empty, at least it should be easy to search...
