I don't think anyone will say that the coach did the wrong thing.
I am not sure of the status of this sport if it amateur or professional but I assume this rule was made to stop backhand type payment as part of their salary
It was a high school (american)--> football coach, so there shouldn't have been any type of violation regarding housing. If it were college, I would understand...but it's not like high schools really go out and recruit kids to come to their school to play football.
