In over a quarter century of computer ownership, I've never had the misfortune to need to take a computer in for repair. Because of that, it never occurred to me that the repair person might be unscrupulous and pry into my private files. I'm glad that I have the skills to make sure that I don't need to risk my private data be viewed by a repair person.

A few years back, my sister asked me to fix her computer. In the course of testing her computer, I opened some of her doc files to test they could be read. When I gave her the computer back, she accused me of reading her private files!

Looks like Geek Squad has lost a source of income. Where will the pedophiles take their computers now?

But what if it wasn't child porn pics, but rather pictures that the owner took or his wife or girlfriend that were discovered. That would be a clear invasion or privacy.

New computer.... opted out of Geek Squad
I just bought a laptop and was told by the sales guy that I could pay the Geek Squad $99 to remove unwanted/needed pre-installed programs. I was told that there 7-10 in the registry to remove. The computer being brand new is sluggish, can anyone tell me how to remove without having to buy a program.
