    Laptop buying!

    Hello Seven community,

I am looking to purchase a laptop for my college course, I am taking Criminology and my prof prefers if I type everything up and I think it would be easier to type up notes on a laptop than that on paper,

I am looking for something fairly cheap but still runs nicely, and has a very decent battery life,

Other than that I am only using the laptop for potentially internet surfing and microsoft word and maybe a few other programs nothing game related,

My budget is possibly $500 or a little over that.

I'm with Toshiba, too. I was going to suggest this:

I've had nothing but good experiences with Toshiba (though I'm sure someone, somewhere hasn't), and their customer service has been great to me.

My current laptop is a Gateway and it too has been flawless besides me upgrading to a much larger WD hard drive and then it crashing three times.....wtf. I upgraded to the max memory in both the Toshiba and this Gateway and they both run XP Pro but man I loved that Toshiba and It just felt like quality !

I'd recommend a netbook with an Intel Atom processor. They are not expensive, but for what it sounds like you need it for would do really well. They have dual core Atom ones with 2 GB of RAM that would even do Windows 7 Home Premium if you wanted such.

Here is a great netbook from ASUS.

    Another one.

    Regular laptop (used).

Sorry if this post seems a bit ASUS-only. I've just had really good experiences with ASUS products. Other manufactures do have good products though.
