AMD or Intel

Only prefer Intel because Microsoft in their infinite wisdom included an intel driver with XP sp3 that did not play nice with my AMD processor in my older computer at the time causing endless BSOD until patch became available & installed. Microsoft claiming at the time more computers were Intel based.

However my current opinion is only based on performance & generational differences of current processors which would change if I were using comparable processors from both chip makers.

I really loved my AMD Athlon 64 4000 on my DFI LanPary 939 NF4 SLI Expert board. This Board and CPU with 4 gigs of Mushkin Redlines DDR500 is where I learned alot about Overclocking and still kinda wish I'd have kept that setup to play around with would have been nice to see how it would run 7.

Now I believe Intel has a slight edge over the AMD processors, although you can still build a pretty good system with an AMD and for a reasonable price as well.

My next build will be with a i7 9XX something.

I do however like the idea of havig compatable components.

Maybe someday possibly having an AMD CPU with AMD/ATI GPU's and would be nice to see them come out with a good AMD/ATI chipset board.

My thinking is having all 3 important pieces of hardware manufactured by the same company and built specifically to work together for maximum preformace, would be pretty cool.

I've always liked to go with the underdogs and for my money the AMD chips are just more cost effective. I can't afford to be at 10/10ths in this hobby so saving real coin and playing at 7-8 10ths is just fine by me. At the pace the technologies advance it's too costly to try to stay out front, but I admire those whom can !

Have always used Intels, and have had good luck, so haven't changed. Maybe someday I'll try AMD.

Like their graphics cards.

I tend to use what ever will provide the best bang per buck, For upgrades and new builds the budget is set by others, who are often more concerned with the bottom line, than the technical status of the hardware - If it does the job it's the right choice.

I also try to purchase a matched set of the three essentials, Motherboard, Processor, and Memory, so the actual cost of the processor alone is not always the main consideration

I prefer intel, price really doesn't faze me - but I am toying with building an AMD based system out of curiosity. (and to put a few spares lying around to good use).

Funny you should mention this one.
I had the nf4 sli ultra, with the AMD Athlon 64 3500.
Heaps of issues getting it to run stable, so spent lots of hours having to put up with the clows on "dfi-street".
Was bad enough having to read the rants of the main clown from "faroffistan", but then all his fanboi's had to get into the act as well.

Took a long time to get it stable. Still have a brand new water cooling kit for it, that never got used. The comp is in the shed now.
