Bulldozers are coming our way baby !
Intel
AMD
undecided / neutral
Rumor has it Bill gates thinks they both got it wrong. He's in the process of designing his own processor built on nanu nanu technology. Its reported to be twice as efficient as the current nanometer based processors. The new processor will be used in a his and her line of computers called the Mork and the Mindy. He's really excited and says the performance of these new PC's will be out of this world.
Haha. Funny thing is, in the days of the Pentium 4 and older AMD Athlon, I thought the same thing about Intel. Now, I'm just not sure. Both seem to have good CPUs. Personally I think prior to the release of Nehalem-based processors (Core i3,i5,i7, etc) AMD was better. The Core 2 Quad was just not all that appealing, at least to me. They were very expensive and in some areas were architecturally inferior to their AMD counterparts. For example, I believe the Core 2 Quad was just 2 dual core dies linked together, whereas AMD had all four cores on one die. This is the case for the i5 and i7 as well. Also, if I'm not mistaken, AMD had HyperTransport before Intel had Quick Path Interconnect which are now competing technologies. AMDs do not support Triple Channel Memory and both CrossFireX and SLI. If AMD supported these, I'd have an AMD system now. Also I've yet to see a killer quad core laptop with an AMD. I've seen plenty (including my laptop) killer Intel Quad laptops though. The Core i7 QM is an amazing processor.
Also, this thread did better than I expected.
With the i5 and i7, intel outdid themselves. They are great processors, but rather cost-prohibitive.
Until intel chips become a little more affordable, I will still recommend AMD for now. Though my intel chipset laptop rated 5.5 lowest score on WEI. Unfortunately I bricked it.
