does anyone notice much of a difference using readyboost on these low-end machines? how well does it work? (or are they so low-end that there are no spare usb slots? )

Slowest download speed ever encountered?
What's the slowest you've ever seen a file download at? For me it was a few bytes per second with the estimated time at several years. Obviously, I cancelled that download :p.
