Spooky Freezer

I bought a new compact freezer, a couple month ago, and it is fine, except a couple of things. I live in a very compact apartment, where there really isn't room for it, so at first I put it on the balcony, until the apartment manager griped, and made me put it inside. Unfortunately, the only place that I found sufficient space is in the living room.

That wouldn't be sooo bad, except that it continuously makes sounds like soft groaning or mumbling. It has done this from the first, is this uncommon or an indication of a problem?

Not really, I don't have a thermometer to put in it. However, it is set at 4 on the temp dial, which is a bit warmer than was recommended as the intial setting.

A freezer does make some noises as the compressor builds and releases pressure. Also some of the cheaper ones do make quite a bit of noise due to smaller overworked compressors.

This is probably the case here, because it is only a 5.5' Holiday. I guess that I will just have to get used to it.

Is there much buildup of ice in the freezer? That can affect the internal thermostat, as the pipes are cold, but the sensor is not cold enough, making the freezer work harder (noise more often). If it's a quiet sound, it's normal. If it seems abnormally loud, you might consider taking it back as defective (depending on where you bought it... Home depot and lowes are pretty good about returns like that)

Not much buildup yet. It is from Lowes, but from this discussion, I don't think it is defective, just spooky.

That is partly due to the fact that we have a haunted elevator, which meets me both coming and going, to the point that it can't just be a coincidence.

It's a good thing that most of the time that I need the elevator is at odd hours of the night, because I've gotten into the habit of greeting the ghost of Otis going up and down. Maybe I've had too much time to watch Ghost Hunters on Hulu.
