UPC codes are universal for a single product. Otherwise each store would have to have their own custom edition of the game's case created and shipped to them.

It is not Best Buy's fault you found them cheaper elsewhere...
And personally i don't think they should take the hit on this.
It seems a bit unscrupulous to me...

Unscrupulous? Maybe. Illegal? No.

But I will not worry about Best Buy, as I have run into incompetence too many times there to care.

Trust me as i said before if the store scans it and it is in thiere system then they have to return it i worked for walmart and toys r us for over 12 years combined as a manager what im telling you is truth

Best buy is the same they have a 15 to 45 day return depending on what product especially opened cause of voiding warrenty etc

but im telling you if you get games from new egg and best buys inventory reconizes the pack then they have no choice but to honor the reciept

Yeah, that's what I was suggesting I do when I made the thread. I'm assuming they would take them in that condition since they are new and unopened.

Only one major flaw in that theory is best buy has their own branded price sticker on their unopened packaging and so would newegg leaving an undetectable (carefull!!!) sticker switch as a last option.

Most items also contain those plastic bar-coded magnetic anti theft stickers and could also pose a risk for returning (got busted on the way INTO the store).
What do you mean by branded sticker? The only packageing I noticed was the Microsoft side seal and the ordinary plastic wrap around the outside. I dono about other copies but BestBuy's had none of those plastic magnetic bars were in the three I opened.

I work at a grocery store, I don't know how many times a day I hear, "Oh wow, what the hell is that? I could get that at Walmart for half that price!" Maybe it is unscrupulous of me but they have screwed me over in the past and I would not waste my time unless it was worth the extra savings.

I concur.

The barcodes are universal, I know that (working at a grocery store has taught me that atleast lol), and the packaging would be the same since no price stickers or anything are applied. It was about a week ago so it is well within their 30 day return period.

Whether it is morally right or wrong to do is another topic in itself. I'm sure I wouldn't be the first and I'm sure I wouldn't be the last.

I guess that may only apply to Canada then as every single item in the store has a price sticker with best buy on it + the plastic bar-coded anti theft sticker. In the snip below of an unopened game the plastic bar-coded anti theft sticker is by the golfers knees on right side and best buy sticker near bottom

This was in the mid 1990's and things were different then, but there was a store in my area who would sell computer games and allow you to bring them back for a refund even if the package was opened. I would go down and get a couple games, play them for a couple weeks and take them back. There was never a problem getting a refund. They stopped the practice after about a year.

I think it depends on the store, I have seen that maybe once, I think? And I believe that was on an "Open Item" that was somehow unpackaged during shipping or something. I have occasionally found the plastic magnetic theft sticker on the inside of the case underneath the disc inside the box but I don't remember if those were games form BestBuy or GameStop.

I was still young at the time but I remember "renting" out computer games from the library. Were talking H-Core Fisher kids games lol.
