That laptop will be crippled by the CPU. According to the spec sheet at HP.com it's an athlon II P340, which is slower than any of the core i series and most core 2 duos made after 2008. If you want a cheap laptop that performs well, you're better off looking for a used laptop.

u mean, intel i3 would be better choice? what speed intel i3 should be to beat athlon II P340? or what processor u would recommend? i wan that cheap laptop still would be good for some games.

Any i3 and most core 2 processors over 2 GHz would leave a P340 in the dust. Don't be fooled by what the clock speed says because that's only part of it and isn't the determining factor. That's not to say there's anything wrong with AMD.. almost every one of their AM3 x2, x3, x4 and x6 processors is less expensive than a currently available intel processor with similar performance, but they don't make a CPU that can compare with the i7 980. The problem you're going to have is you can't get a new laptop for that will be good for gaming for $400. Cheap laptops that boast good graphics or a fast CPU will always be critically deficient somewhere else, and you need a good graphics card, a good cpu, lots of memory and a fast HDD to run most of the high end games, and it has to have efficient cooling capacity..(HP doesn't do too well on that)

thanx for the info, i saw similar models with i3. i will look up for them again. and dont worry, im not about hi-def gaming. just simple ordinary gaming, with older games, so laptop like that should do the job. I know, HP have not best cooling, but, they cheapest, and if u clean then regularry, they will last long and not owerheat. I have old HP compaq, i bought on 2006, and its still working, i use every day, its ON like some server, newer was repaired.

I've worked on a few of those.. They have a tendency to overheat, not as badly as an HP DV4 or DV5 series but if you also buy a chillmat it's not going to fail due to overheating. If its for sale at that price, there's probably a good reason the owner wants to get rid of it. If you can find one that has survived the warranty without a failure.. go for it. My experience with dell laptops is they either BSOD and need a hardware replacement every few months or they last forever
