Thanks,

HonorGamer:
Here's a challenge- I've looked high and low for a program that will compare pictures in a directory for duplicates.
The only one I've ever found that comes close is DupDetector. It's free and does it's job with limitations and a lot of false positives.
There are many commercial programs (I can't afford) that claim to do this, but it seems they compare only two(2) pictures at a time.
I want it to compare maybe thousands of pictures to check for duplicates (or close).
Free would be a nice touch, too

I mainly only code free programs. But that would be a long and hard program.

Give me more of an idea what you mean though. Do you mean like, you enter a picture and it compares to other pictures in a directory?

HonorGamer:

The way DupDetector works is this:
  • You point it to a directory containing x number of pictures
  • It builds an internal list of those files with their specific color content (I guess; I don't know how he does it)
  • Then it compares all the pictures in that list for duplicates based on some intriguing algorithm
  • Then you can display all the pictures the program thinks are duplicates (percentages can be adjusted within the program settings)
  • The user then cycles through the duplicates and decides whether to keep it
I like this program but it doesn't play nicely with Windows 7- the program's display is corrupted.

Here's a snapshot plus the About page so you can check it out if you like:
