Those OEM all make terrible computers.
I disagree. They just aren't ideal for the elitists, and hardcore computer enthusiasts. I support tons of OEM computers from Dell and HP at work. I have used Dell Latitude desktops for nearly 10 straight years, and have loved 'em.
    Ok, true enough.

From a quality standpoint, they are only as good as they need to be.
I also really don't like it when they use propreitary parts, or put in a cheap power supply JUST powerful enough for what it has.

You are totally right, it's fine for more computer users, but not for enthusiasts.

Since we could be considered "hardcore" computer builders/users, i voted Toshiba, as we have a few of their notebooks.

Our home built desktops all have quality Asus mobo's, like the wife's last one, Asus Rampage II Extreme.
Her new one i just built, but still needs an OS, is the Asus Rampage III Extreme.

Like stated before now that I've build my first system I'll never go back to manufactured desktops but if I was forced to haha and I won the lottery I'd get a Murderbox.
Laptop's are kind of a toss up as they all are good and bad. I'll lean towards Toshiba but every now and then each manufacturer will push out an amazing product then follow it up with a load of shite. People will always slam any brand as between user error and manufacturer issue there's always something to complain about. It's like that line in The Shawshank Redemption....when asked what he was in for Andy replies, "Me? My lawyer ****ed me. Everybody's innocent in here. Didn't you know that?"

I like my Lenovo. I prefer it the reason I forked out more on it than I should have. :P

Yep, it was the one G4 Mac I hadn't got yet till about a month ago. it's my little OSX Tiger machine. Just maxed out the RAM to 1GB yesterday. It even has the original plastic on the chrome arm. :)

Well I have a Dell! I have had several Dell Desktops and Laptops, and all have served me perfectly. I would build my own, but those who know me know how much of a software person I am. I have absolutely NO CLUE about hardware. You may think this an exaggeration. Here are just a few examples to prove this is an UNDERSTATEMENT!

    • I had to create a thread over at VF for plugging in a PCI-E card.

    • RAM clock speeds confuse me. It would be fine if you could just read them, but I think you have to multiply some of them up. No clue!

    • My old computers have a different shape RAM to my new ones

Getting the picture now? I am the sort of person you should send to Dell, rather than trying to get me to build my own computer! lol

Back into the Windows Update forum for me, I feel!

    Sorry guys!
