    The ultimate parochialism

Yesterday I was bored and signed on to a forum where I am a member but had not been in a long time. One OP had a problem for which we have the solution in a tutorial. So I tried to link the tut in my answer. But the link was automatically destroyed by them inserting >>Spam<< into the middle of the link which made the link useless. Even when I wanted to spell out our forum name in plain text they replaced it by >>Spam<<.

I think this is the ultimate ignorance. I know some forums (including our own) are a bit touchy when it comes to using tutorials from other sources when there is an adequate tutorial on the same subject available. But this experience is too much.

I would think it would be to the advantage of all if the technical forums worked together and that a free exchange of knowledge would be to the benefit of all users. But it looks more like some build the wall of China around their patch - which is too bad.

whs, I think the greatest threat would be if the members of these other forums found this one , They would leave their old forums in droves and join us

I am not so sure. I have been on a dozen forums and most are very decent. Some have more, some have less activity. But you get help in all of them. There are also always some very knowlegeble people on each forum. And I think that is the beauty of the thing, different approaches at different sites make it interesting.

One thing that has gone unnoticed is that, even though most forums are helpful, only SevenForums has pebbly.

I think if you were to link to a product or a paid site they might have a legitimate gripe. Helping their members with a problem they apparently can't solve should be appreciated.

In my humble opinion this forum is a gem in a field of stones and it's as much about it's members and administration as anything !

I saw you on "that" forum whs, there are 2 ways around this problem ... put the tutorial in quotes when you reply or spell out our name as s e v e n f o r u m s . c o m .... this will get around their spam filter .. and yes, I agree, its very annoying..
