Schools over here always start on odd days, the silliest is when they start on a Thursday so they've only got 2 days that week. They call them teacher training days or some such name, if the teachers don't know what they're doing now don't give out much hope for the students learning anything.
joan, the teachers have so much more to do these days , they have to gen up on new curriculum, new health and saftey risk assesment stuff, gear up for the new term ,get the classrooms ready for the new term, do their lesson planning ,this actually has to be prepped on the computer and uploaded to the school server so that if they are off ill ,then a supply teacher can continue the lessons and keep the continuity ,they have to be genned up on ofsted (visits) the teachers have targets they have to achieve ,and the pressure on them to do so is immense ,also the big reason is when the kids go back after a holiday they are buzzing with their friends and catching up ,so this done when they start the following monday they can knuckle down and get on with it.
and also when school finishes at 3.00pm or 3.15 the kids leave and the teachers have to do school clubs etc and stay until 6ish.
although a teacher gets a good wage they certainly earn it.

my father was the principle of his department and had three heart attacks ,the third one finished him off.
i was until september the chair of governors for my daughters school .
there is always something new to learn whatever age we are ,the day we think we know it all we are finished.
Rant over ,not aimed at you joan.
just the crazy school system and lack of funds for schools get me going.:)

Today, our cable internet was down for 10 hours, because somebody set fire to a utility pole that the cable fiber optic main line was mounted on. Here in the wild, wild west, that calls for a lynching neck-tie party

here in the wild west country we dont have fibre optics yet, they say they are going to start soon so we wait eagerly , at last we may get the high speeds we pay for but don't receive.
that must have been frustrating doc ,although i'm sure you nipped forward 10 hours and weren't affected

Today I'll meet my neurologist to hear if I get my drivers license back (it's been temporarily cancelled because of medical reasons). Fingers crossed, we really need at least one car and driver, and Angie must give her license away for four weeks latest end of March, due to too many speeding tickets, as told here.

Walking still with aid but I'm ready to drive, hoping that the doctor feels that way, too

Have you done any driving at all lately Kari , ie practised on some private land that you don't have to have a license for that way you would be able to gauge fully whether you are up to it ,although this wouldn't be the same as being out there on the autobahn

No, Boohbah, I haven't, not counting occasionally moving cars between our driveway and garage. But I've been driving since I was 18, over 30 years now, and for instance the past 10 years drove at least 70,000 kilometers (about 43,500 miles) per year, so I believe I'll manage. And our cars are new and safe.

Of course the combination of no-speed-limit-Autobahns and my love for speed could cause some problems, me not having any experience in the last half a year, but I also believe I am quite realistic and realize this, driving not too carefully but all the time remembering I've had a long break.

Anyway, driving is something I miss very much. Would be nice to get my license back.

Don't forget to have a shave, you might look a bit different since the last time you seen your neurologist, you don't want to give him a fright do you, here is a picture of you last week when Angie was away, when you came to our party.
