RIP Simba, my gorgeous Alsatian Cross

    August 1997 - 10th January 2011, died aged 13

I had to put him to sleep yesterday, his legs kept giving way, he also had a heart murmur, fluid in his abdomen and towards the end he had breathing difficulties.

Hi, Fluffy, I'm very sorry about your loss. We all know (or hope) we will outlive our pets but, anytime we lose one, it is never easy. The cat in my avatar was at the vet's all day today after he received a wound from a roaming animal. Prognosis is good and he's home now, resting. I am very happy about that and your post is indicative of the pain and sorrow I would feel should the prognosis not have been what it turned out to be.

My thoughts are with you and your wonderful family - thank you for sharing.

Sorry to hear about your dog mate. Losing one of the 'family' is always hard and it's never an easy choice to make the decision

I know it's small/no comfort, but sometimes it's simply the kindest thing to do.

My condolences, I know he will be missed. You no doubt have many fond memories to remember him. Not the last memories of Vet vists etc. Farewell Simba. A Guy

You've touched a nerve with me Fluffy. My old mongrel is showing his age and it can't be long before we take our last walk together.
I live on my own and he is a constant companion. I don't know what I will do without him.
I'm sorry for your loss mate. I know it's early days, but will you get another?
    Best wishes, John

I am a massive dog lover so in the future I will get another, Simba wasn't my first dog, but he touch my heart more than any other pet I have had. Our walks used to last for hours, I would take him on 5-10 mile walks and he loved it. The last few years though he could only manage 3 or 4 miles before he got tired.

He was never poorly throughout his life and it was only the last couple of months he started going down hill. Also he was very fit and healthy as he got plenty of exercise, he put on a bit of weight over the last year but he wasn't fat or anything.

sorry to hear about your loss Fluffy.

i look after a lot of cats, and one of my favourites, Smudge, has a large growing tumour in his jaw/throat. the vet and i are monitoring closely, and at the moment, Smudge is still in blissful ignorance - he isn't in pain, nor does it seem to affect his breathing and eating - yet.

however, it will do in a month or two's time, and when that happens we will have to do the right thing for him and help him out of his suffering.

as i keep so many cats, mainly oldies, this is a decision i have to regretfully take regularly. but i am still thankful that i've had the chance to enjoy their company for the time that we shared together.

i know it's not the same, but i'm sure the right pup will find it's way to you before long.

as A Guy mentioned above, try to think of the good times, and not the last few weeks when you think about Simba.
